My best game is Game 4678945 which puzzles me greatly. I have played him in a couple of other tourney games and the level of play in those games is light and day when compared with the level of play in the game I won. It actually has me quite a bit concerned

Some time in the last century, 😉 I competed in a tournament which required all participants to have a USCF rating of 2000 or above. At the time, my rating was 2118. The tournament was in the Swiss System format and was 6 rounds. My results below:

My performance rating for this tournament was over 2400! At the time, I had hopes that this result reflected a real improvement in my play. Unfortunately, it has turned out to merely be the highlight of my chess career, as I never broke through 2200. Still, telling the story does bring back pleasant memories. 🙂

Me being a generally sub par player - I don't have many good results. Anyone with a rating of 1550+ will generally beat me without too much effort.

Game 3674166 vs theundertaker who was rated somewhere in the 1800's when I played him.

Game 3790209 vs 2advent, I got lucky in this one, real lucky.

Draws:

Game 2854007 vs MAXALF, may have had something to do with him not needing to win to be honest. He and I were already out of the running in the tourament.

I've had some good wins against 1600 and 1700 opposition - but again I suspect these were more due to their underperforming than my innate skill in Chess play...

My best showing against a high-rated player was this ancient game against Capa:Game 173820. I think I analyzed it after the fact, but that was years ago so I know longer know which of us was more responsible for the result.

I doubt you will ever see a better gambit, forced mate than this in correspondence! Besides vipiu's game. I believe it was a 7-10 move force mate, and additionally I sacrificed a pawn, a Knight, and two bishops to achieve mate. The basic equivalent to a queen sac.

What was even better for me was the fact that in both games I won playing as black.

Now if only I could play that well in all my games I'd have a better rating than I currently do 😉

EDIT : Spot the glaring mistake I made in the first game but got away with 😉
