mm, its a good question? materialism, lack of integrity of religious leaders, other forms of religion, football (soccer to you), faith in science and its theories, prevalence of tabloid newspapers and sensationalistic journalism (God! why me! etc etc), adoption of other ideologies, socialism , etc etc

rather interestingly, here in the U.K, four policemen listed their religion as Jedi!

Originally posted by utherpendragonwooha, is that controversial? i had a friend in Miami who i used to play regularly on this site, he was from Virginia originally, anyhow, he tried to explain the American political system to me, but even now i do not understand it completely, why are the republicans more likely to be religious, for it seems, that even during the last administration, there was a real kind of right wing conservatism, didn't George have the Bible read in the white house?, but then in the administration before that, i remember watching Bill Clinton confess in church i think, or ask forgiveness at least? i cant remember, anyhow, the whole thing seems a huge facade, a kind of form of worship, but with no substance. in Europe this has always been the case, perhaps it has just taken longer for it to percolate throughout America, or perhaps , historically, because many of the pilgrim fathers were reformers, its has never really been challenged.

Well, you're in a minority. I believe I have alienated the majority of the people who use the forums on the site.
In other words, I've done my job.
You are entitled to your opinion and the freedom to express it. Your posts in this thread that you expect the majority of people on rhp to want to kill you for having it, is a truly frightening reflection of you and your religions' fundamental and extreme view of the opposite situation.
In this modern era, may God, common sense or the sheer force of human love, preserve us from the vile hatred and demonisation of 'infidels' by Islam.

The American system can be summed up rather easily with the words of one of the founders: "But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." - Thomas Jefferson. There used to be a strain of conservative religion in America that wanted the government out of religion and stayed out of government themselves because they feared government interference with religion (something about which Europeans have memories!?) Unfortunately the preachers who ran these congregations developed a taste for power. As most Americans would I would literally fight for your right to your chosen religion but I don't want the government to favor even my religion. It is because of that freedom and lack or preference that all religions can flourish here. When you put the weight of the state behind a religion they are both in danger of becoming a tyranny and not a choice. Moves have been made in that direction recently but it is easy to see that all they have achieved in the long run is the weakening of both those religions and the political philosophies that embraced them.
As Obama has said, "Democracy demands that the religiously motivated translate their concerns into universal, rather than religion-specific, values. It requires that their proposals be subject to argument, and amenable to reason." You can't assume a captive audience that must assent to your interpretation of the world. The government must treat all citizens with equal respect regardless of their religious views or it loses the legitimacy to govern.
Originally posted by divegeesterI know what an infidel is. I was just wondering why you brought the word into a discussion that didn't need it.
I was generalizing about the term used by Islam of unbelievers or uninitiated.
Do you consider yourself a revolutionary then?
And yes, I do consider myself revolutionary.

Because I'm a non-sub, I get ads when I do this site. It's ok, but it's sometimes aggravating.
Like this one that I just saw that was all about "Visit Israel and see your Christian Heritage."
Now, this site apparently has some sketchy sources of funding. (*free speech, mods; don't delete that comment*) Any site that advertises Christianity to a Muslim ...[text shortened]... ny comments from the peanut gallery about this outrageous abuse of religious imperialism?
Is it not possible just to ignore this silly advert.
You are here to play chess not stare at the stupid adverts.
I only read halfway through this thread and saw it was going all to pot.
It's a chess site boys remember the Fide Motto:
"Gens Una Sumus" We are One Family.
Why they want a Religious Forum on a chess site I'll never know.
Religion just causes trouble, it would be great if there was no religion.
(Did Jesus not teach something like that. You don't need a religion
to believe in God.)
He started preaching that you don't need churches and organisations
to be a righteous person.
He was all about love and peace and harmony. Let it come from
within, you don't have to be in a religion to be a good decent human
being. Do unto others as you would like them to do unto you.
I guess that's why they got the Romans to put him to death.
There was this guy going around saying you don't need churches
and organised religions. He was going to upset the gravy train.
All religions appear to have the same manifesto.
Hate all other religions, you will die if you don't believe in our
religion and gives us your money.
It's the killing of the non-believers I can never understand.
Killing a fellow human because he does not believe in the
God that you believe created him, is surely a sin in the eyes of
the God that you believe exists.
To this day people are still dying because they are the 'wrong' religion.
If only they had listened to Jesus.
Oops! I have digressed. I should have posted that on that thread
'Who is Jesus.' though it should really called 'Who was Jesus'.
Anyway,,,
Back to the matter in hand.
Most of us will not really understand why you are so upset because
of most us are trained NOT to look at adverts. They are everywhere.
Buy this, buy that, go here, go there, eat this, eat that... so ignore it.
Though the irony of it makes me smile.
You are not going to subscribe because you don't like the adverts
but if you do subscribe then you will not see any adverts.
I have a link.
If you really really don't like the advert and it really is nipping your tits
then go here:

and log an offical complaint against it.
Take Care Mate and Good Luck.

tell me this, in Europe, in the U.K anyway, less than 2% of the population go to church, beleif in God has a stigma attached to it, but in the States it seems that persons are much more open and candid with regard to their faith, this to me, is a beautiful aspect of American culture, and the Americans that i have met have kind of embodied this honest ...[text shortened]... se of your traditions, the vastness of the country, community peer pressure, why is it the case?
