A person to be pitied in that he is unable to believe in things for which there is no evidence, and who has thus deprived himself of a convenient means of feeling superior to others. Chaz Bufe

Actually, atheists frequently believe in things for which there is no evidence. Just not God.

Most things we see in the universe there is diffidently evidence for :-) From particles to super massive black holes. The evidences are what we see and know.
But a by product of evidence is letting us peer into the unknown.

Cannot differ trillion of years with billion of years? Yes, lack of intellect!
Believing in humans billions of years ago?
Believing blindly in people telling vedic things? Yes, definitely lack of intellect.

I am sure that plenty of atheists are superstitious, take homeopathic medicine, read the astrology section of the newspaper etc.

“The Fool” and God
“It never occurred to any writer of the OT [Hebrew Scriptures] to prove or argue the existence of God,” says Dr. James Hastings in A Dictionary of the Bible. “It is not according to the spirit of the ancient world in general to deny the existence of God, or to use arguments to prove it. The belief was one natural to the human mind and common to all men.” This does not mean, of course, that all men at that time were God-fearing. Far from it. Psalm 14:1 and 53:1 both mention “the senseless one,” or as the King James Version says, “the fool,” who has said in his heart, “There is no Jehovah.”
What kind of person is this fool, the man who denies the existence of God? He is not intellectually ignorant. Rather, the Hebrew word naval; points to a moral deficiency. Professor S. R. Driver, in his notes to The Parallel Psalter, says that the fault is “not weakness of reason, but moral and religious insensibility, an invincible lack of sense, or perception.”
The psalmist goes on to describe the moral breakdown that is a result of such an attitude: “They have acted ruinously, they have acted detestably in their dealing. There is no one doing good.” (Psalm 14:1) Dr. Hastings sums up: “Counting on this absence of God from the world and on impunity, men become corrupt and do abominable deeds.” They openly embrace ungodly principles and discount a personal God to whom they have no wish to be accountable. But such thinking is as foolish and senseless today as it was when the psalmist wrote his words over 3,000 years ago.

1 Corinthians 1:18-31 (New International Version)

Christ Crucified Is God’s Power and Wisdom
18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written:
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”[a]

20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

26 Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”[b]

Theres spiritual intelligence, and material intelligence.....and the atheists have bucket loads of material intelligence, but lack spiritual intelligence because they are under illusion, insincere, envious, puffed-up and consumed by materialism.

In the mind of God a billion years is less than a nano second!

Life in this creation is actually trillions of years old, but you have to remember that this creation is one creation out of unlimited creations, and the cosmos goes through cycles of annilations and creations eternally.

This particular creation (the current one) has a time span of 311 trillion years and where half way through that at the moment, and since the last partial innihilation, life has been on planet earth for 2.3 billion years.

The definition of an atheist is not "someone who does not believe in something where there is no evidence", it is "someone who does not believe in God". There are many atheists, so statistically, the will be many who are superstitious, take homeopathic medicine, read astrology etc.

To prove it, all you have to do is find a homeopath, astrologer or someone who believes in a superstition who does not believe in God.

In other words, people who doesn't believe in something where there is no evidence is a subset of people who are atheists, not the other way around.
