@secondson saidFeel free to expand upon this as it pertains to the invitation to define consciousness.
On the other hand my beliefs are founded on the wisdom of God.
@secondson saidAnd yet you suggested it belonged on another thread that should be started to discuss it?
I didn't say it didn't belong.
@secondson saidWhat "stress"?
How can one bear up under the stress of uncertainty? Especially about the truth. Where is the guide for consciousness? What is my consciousness telling me, relative to the truth of things, deep inside my...what? My brain?
@secondson saidLike the proverbial irresistible force and immovable object.
It's a tough thing isn't it that such a conundrum should exist? Like the proverbial irresistible force and immovable object.
How does this relate to defining consciousness?
@fmf saidI don't need to "feel" it FMF. I am free to make my assertions anywhere, anytime in the whole wide world. In some places though I'd lose my head for doing so. (Insert appropriate smiley face)
If you want to make some assertions about these things ~ especially about consciousness ~ based on your religious beliefs, feel free to do so.
@fmf saidNo.
So you believe your assertion ~ that your consciousness will exist for eternity even after you are dead ~ has some additional merit because you are "really sure"?
I'm "really sure" because my assertions are based in God's wisdom.
But yours are man centered.
So now we can get at the heart of the matter, maybe.
@secondson saidIf you want to offer some sort of theological definition of consciousness, you should do so. This is the thread for it.

@secondson saidWhat has been stopping you from getting to "the heart of the matter" up to this point?

Why then did you say this in answer to one of my suggested definitions on page 2 of this thread:
That says what consciousness does, not what it is. The title of the thread is "define consciousness". Its definition is what it is, not what it does.
You have changed your mind, then?
I think a good definition of consciousness might be~it is what it does.

BUMP
@fmf saidI bet you think you snuck that one in on me.
@fmf said
Is your contention that your consciousness is eternal not related to your religious beliefs then?
@secondson said
No.
Upon what is it based, then?
Up till now I was trying to engage in discourse about consciousness without dragging God into it, but you just can't resist.
Isn't it obvious to you that I know you know I know, you know I believe God created the consciousness?
Couldn't figure out where to put that comma. 🙂
@secondson saidSo, why don't you define consciousness according to your belief?
Isn't it obvious to you that I know you know I know, you know I believe God created the consciousness?
@secondson saidI think the extent to which you have been tossing out half-baked ideas, contradicting yourself or dodging the challenge is all there out in the open, and no snuck this or snuck that is involved.
I bet you think you snuck that one in on me.
