Some of the lessons today we should derive from the Bible's account of the flood.

1.) Not all humanity will be destroyed. Some will be saved.

2.) The Bible shows that the ark saved the people from judgment. But the water saved the people of God from the corrupted world.

a.) There was a saving from the water by the ark.
b.) There was a saving of the saints of God from the world by the flood.

Cont. below.

3.) As in the days of Noah so it will be in the last days before the millennial kingdom.

" For just as the days of Noah were, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

For as they were in those days before the flood, eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day in which Noah entered into the ark.

And they did not know that judgment was coming until the flood came and took all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be." (Matt. 24:37-39)

Men and women, boys and girls will be in a drunken stupor, utterly intoxicated with even legitimate preoccupations to realize the world is about to be judged by God.
People will be buying, selling, eating, drinking, marrying but fully befuddled.

Some will be sober minded and attentive to the plan of God to bring in a new age.

4.) The present fallen and godless world you love is passing away. But the one who does the will of God abides forever.

" Do not love the world nor the things which are in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in him.

Because all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the vainglory of life, is not of the Father but is of the world.

And the world is passing away, and its lust, but he who does the will of God abides forever." ( 1 John 2:16,17)

This is not about the earth. This is about the system called the Kosmos - the world system that commenced from the time that Cain left the presence of God and built the first city to live without God (Genesis 4:14,16)

5.) The reality of the type of the ark of Noah today is Christ and His building, the church. - an "organic" spiritual entity - a union of men in Christ.

This may be the most important lesson. We need to be "shut in" by God in Christ in the same way God shut the eight people in the ark.

6.) Another lesson is that Christ's redemptive death and resurrection was not only for man but He "tasted death on behalf of EVERYTHING". This implies that the earth and its animals mean much to God to save just as animals for man, went into the ark with man.

" But we see Jesus, who was made a little inferior to the angels because of the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death on behalf of everything." (Hebrews 2:9)

7.) Genesis says that the ark was coated within and without with pitch which is a kind of tar.

Brother Witness Lee speaks to the ark being covered with pitch as indicating the redemption of Christ in typology.

6. Covered within and without with
Pitch

Christ is not only the crucified One, but also the One who shed His blood to cover us from the penalty of our sins. So, the ark was pitched within and without with pitch (6:14). The Hebrew word for pitch has the same root as the Hebrew word for atonement. The main meaning of this Hebrew root is "to cover." The word for the cover of the ark of the testimony, the mercy seat, also comes from this same root. This means that in Christ we have the full covering. We all are covered with His redemption.

Death cannot damage Him, and so no condemnation or judgment can reach us, because we are under the covering of Christ's redemption. The pitch signifies the redeeming of Christ, which covers God's building within and without. The covering within is for our sight, and the covering without is for God's. Perhaps when the flood was attacking the ark, the people within were frightened. But whenever they looked at the pitch within, they could be at peace. The pitch inside the ark was for their peace. The pitch outside the ark was for God's satisfaction. The covering of the pitch without was also for Satan and the angels. This is a picture of the blood. Whenever we look at the blood, we have peace. Whenever God looks at the blood, He is satisfied. Whenever Satan looks at the blood, he is unable to attack. Whenever the angels look at the blood, they rejoice.

In other words, no WW flood, only an allegory.

(Matthew 24:37, 38) For just as the days of Noah were, so the presence of the Son of man will be. 38 For as they were in those days before the Flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark,

Here Jesus speaks of the Flood as a real event and Noah as a real person.
In his prehuman existence Jesus witnessed the Flood first hand.
Do you believe what he says?

Being a Jew, wouldn't Jesus simply have been brought up with a belief in the same folk tales and superstitions as all the other Jews around him?

So you are saying all folk tales are fictional and never actually happened?

I didn't say that at all. You said that. You made that false dichotomy - ie. allegory verses historical occurence.

And "WW flood" is your expression as well. I usually just refer to the flood or Noah's flood. At least I did not come up with that expression - "WW flood".

The folk tale about some kind of angry supernatural being deliberately killing all humans and animals on earth aside from a handful each? What reason would I have to believe mythology of this kind?

Belief is a choice you can choose not to believe anything you want.

Your lack of belief doesn't make anything any less true.

What utter nonsense. Do you seriously think that a person can choose to believe something that they quite simply find unbelievable? You haven't thought this through.

You may find something unbelievable, that doesn't mean that everyone does. Also anything that is unbelievable isn't necessarily false. Belief or lack of belief is a choice you make abviously based on what what you find believable or not.

You've moved on to prattling truisms. I know why you're doing it. Let's linger a moment on what you said. It was this: "Belief is a choice you can choose not to believe anything you want. Go on then, tell me some things that you find completely unbelievable that you claim you can choose to believe.

So you disagree that belief is a conscious choice?

No one can choose to believe ancient Hebrew mythology if they find it utterly unbelievable. It is preposterous to suggest that a revelation of God would be reliant on such a psychologically bogus notion as this.
