Speaking to those people in that time and place fair enough. I can't help but feel that that exclusivity would have rung somewhat hollow "upstairs" when used to justify subsequent wars in his name.

We all will give an account for all we do and say. There will be no small amount of things done in His name, that will be revealed to be really on account of our lusts and pride!
