What do you mean then when you say that your definition of mental illness is 'separation from God'?
Mental illness, ie. clinical depression, schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, are caused by irregularities in the brain in some shape or form and can be treated/managed with medication. Nothing to do with being separated from some imaginary 'God'.
With my defintion the words are more loosely defined.
BTW i have been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia for about 8 years.
Originally posted by DasaWe are not using the words properly. I know that, but it is my way to present my take on "mental illness". I am sorry if I offended anyone. T'was not my intention.
I will say it again....every mental illness on the face of the earth has its roots in spiritual retardation.
To be spiritually retarded is to not know who you are.....and that is most people.
Our true identity is spiritual, and not knowing this sets person up to become mentally ill........and most are.
A mentally challenged person does no know who they ...[text shortened]... .
Your statement before about separation from God is very true, and stand firm in your truth.

Hey, don't worry about what people like Proper Knob and me think. You've got Dasa cheering for you now.... "...every mental illness on the face of the earth has its roots in spiritual retardation. Our true identity is spiritual, and not knowing this sets person up to become mentally ill........and most are." You blurted out your crass 18th century idea and Dasa about whether you're offensive or not, you've found common cause with Dasa on this one.
Dasa: That message was going to be for you, but I realized I was responding to FMF so I am sorry to have turned it around mid paragraph.
I am quite pleased at the patience you have shown with dealing with this FMF character.

God's in a cushion?
Why not a pillow?
Why would God want to sit under an arse instead of under a head?
It all sounds a little anal.
Or perhaps you can't find God in a cushion, because you're not elastic enough to both sit on your arse and look under your arse at the same time.
In a cushion? Why????
There is no god, but a funny little blue "turtle guy" on the inside of your mind. He'll tell you whats what.

Yet for 12 months he's paid
Hence 2 more remain
and his course won't be stayed
Blindly peddling his 'truth'
He's forsaken his youth
His zeal does not wane
he fights nail and tooth
Twice he's called truce
After a storm of abuse
Some suggest he's insane
whilst others...obtuse!
Vilified the most
He's a pestilent ghost
and inspite of no gain
He'll continue to post

Agers oh Agers,
these spiritual slackers
doth science to disdain
and then lay the blame
with outrageous acclaim
that ol Darwin was insane
and had much to gain
from preposterous claim
that from a monkey we came
Agers oh Agers what shall we do
spank them all soundly with the end of a shoe
send them to bed without any supper
and give them a good hiding with a cut to the upper
afterwards drinking tea from our favourite cuppa
Agers oh Agers had they but known
some aptitude for equations clearly have shown
that from their fate they may have been saved
instead of in prison with head all shaved
but this is the end of my story and tale
the moral please do not bewail
if ever you find yourself in a spot,
be sure to lay your hand upon your bot
it will bring you back to reality
instead of arguing with theists on the pc
Originally posted by DasaI don't get the point.
There is more to the statement "separation from God is the cause of mental illness"................ that's just ambiguous , standing by itself.
It means that without spiritual consciousness, the consciousness is rooted in the mundane, and the mundane does not inform us of our true identity and the understanding of who we are and what is life.
Take this ...[text shortened]... generalized her but I am sure you get the point.....and the point is all that matters.....
Some forms of mental illness are caused by chemical imbalances in the brain, correct those and the person is fine. I don't see how being separated from God causes those imbalances, it's a material problem.
Secondly, if separation from God is the root of the problem in your eyes, it should follow that if a person reconnects themself to God the mental illness should disappear. How would reconnecting to God and adopting the spiritual life readjust the chemical imbalances in a persons brain?
