It turns out you had no idea what you were talking about when it comes to what moderating a debate entails. Do you acknowledge it? No. Do you simply deflect instead? Yes.

So now that you have looked up what a debate moderator does, do you wish to modify any of the assertions you have made about the role on the last few pages

With that kerfuffle out of the way...

It seems to me that two benefits of a debate would be that preparing for it would be educational and it would inject more civility into the forum. It might also inject some humility here and there.

Anyone interested might want to take a look at the arguments summarized or referenced at

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Existence_of_God

A full semester could be spent on the subject. It would touch on many philosophical topics.

'Just' to referee. Monitor time limits, word counts, treaty violations, etc.

I think there is interest here in having formalized debates. I'm no poster child and I'm sure no powerhouse, but I'm willing. To pull thoughts together and present them to the arena, this is fun!

The peanut gallery gets the final vote, of course.

A debate thread should have only two posters and the moderator.

Two opposing teams, one presenter per team, which could rotate.

Counting all categories and subcategories, the link I provided above has 32 (arguably) different arguments for the existence of God and 27 against. It’s possible that some could be dealt with as groups, but this would make for a debate of the ages. It would become a massive survey, more than a debate with firm conclusions.

I'm not sure if I should be talking about gods, or about discussion boards and their ability to host discussion about gods.

Or about other stuff.
