This post gets my rec because it is illustrative of the point I'm making.

EDIT: ivanhoe, apologies if it seems like I've hijacked your thread. I still think we're on topic in my discussion with vistesd.

That's all right. It is always good to know where somebody is coming from. I'm referring to Mr. Frogstomp and his paranoid ideas.

Name just one freaking Nazi was excommunicated prior to or during WW2.
Then tell me exactly what religion was taught in the seminary at the Hitler Youth camp.
Tell me the pope at that time wasn't buddy buddy with hitler.
Tell me also that Fascism wasnt formed by practising catholics.
Tell me the last pope didnt support the dictators in Latin America while removing priests that ministered to the resistance.
Tell me he didnt refuse to excommunicate D'Arbuson for having the bishop assassinated.

and ,,,,and,,,,and,,,,

Keep the pope out of US Politics

Of course you would, wouldn't you? You'd think that of anything written by a Catholic, especially a future Pope.

I think anybody that went to seminary school in a Hitler Youth camp probably ought not be pope.
Listen up, just admit you're a fascist and be done with it.

Hmmm....it does seem that Benedict's address could be summed up as freedom is slavery.

Please.

After he was repatriated in 1945, he and his brother entered Saint Michael Seminary in Traunstein, and then studied at the Ducal Georgianum (Herzogliches Georgianum) of the Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich.

Keep your facts straight.

How do you figure?

And please do not play to the gallery - I give you much more credit than that based on your previous posts.

Pope Benedict, 78, has not tried to hide his enrollment in the Hitler Youth at age 14, addressing his brief membership in his autobiography, "Salt of the Earth."
"We weren't in it to start with, but with the beginning of the obligatory Hitler Youth in 1941 my brother was enrolled as was required," he recalled. "I was too young but later was enrolled into it from the seminary."
Benedict said he tried to avoid Hitler Youth meetings, creating a dilemma. He needed proof of attendance to get a tuition discount, which his father - a retired policeman - badly needed.
So he finessed it, according to his book. "Thank God, there was a math teacher who understood. He was himself a Nazi party member, but an honest man who told me, 'Just go so we have it,'" he recalled. "But when he saw that I simply didn't want to, he said: 'I understand, I'll take care of it.' And so I was free of it."

Oh boy. Where did you pick that passage from?

EDIT: Never mind, here it is:

AFAICS, the seminary was not in a Hitler Youth "Camp" (whatever that is). The Hitler Youth was, it would seem, the Nazi version of the Boy Scouts.
