@secondson saidSince when has evolution been unsupported by hard evidence? We are overrun with hard evidence, we have hard evidence coming out of our ears (which can be painful sometimes), you only have to catch the number 7 bus to your nearest town to find hard evidence. I don't know which century you're living in, but fast - forward ye a couple and see what happens.
All you can do is disbelieve, since there is no evidence to the contrary, which was the point I made.
Of course, when it is convenient, terms can be said to have different meanings. A theory is merely a supposition or speculation. The theory of evolution falls apart because it is unsupported by any hard evidence, and must therefore be believed in by faith, and the disbelief of known facts.
@secondson saidOn the contrary sir. I am quietly confident most of my knowledge is based on "fact-supported theories".
A theory just the same.
You are merely choosing to believe what you think is a "well-substantiated explanation".
Please be honest sir, and admit you don't know a damn thing for sure, based on alleged "fact-supported theories".
@kellyjay saidGive just ONE example of fine tuning of the Universe for life with your justifications.
No, there are constants that applies to the whole, and variables throughout both macro and micro. You think that gravity and the explansion of the universe are varied throughout the universe? The only reason anything can occur are due to the underlying laws of the universe. It is no different than loading new software on a PC, before that happens there has to be a stable fin ...[text shortened]... is a meaningless happenstance glibly ignoring all the necessary things right in front of your eyes!
@kellyjay saidThe universe supports life on Earth. It doesn't support life on Mercury. This is down to chance, not design.
I've stated a couple already that support the universe supporting life. You want
me to back in this thread and repeat myself?
And again, nothing has been fine-tuned. (For example, the Earth wasn't divinely nudged a little further from the sun to make life possible).
@ghost-of-a-duke saidDo you think we are the only creatures who exist in the universe?

@very-rusty saidNot a chance. I believe life is pretty commonplace.
Do you think we are the only creatures who exist in the universe?

@ghost-of-a-duke saidDo you believe life may exist on places other than earth?
Not a chance. I believe life is pretty commonplace.
-VR
@very-rusty saidYes sir. I believe life is commonplace across the universe.
Do you believe life may exist on places other than earth?
-VR
@ghost-of-a-duke saidDo you have any scientific evidence of this?
Yes sir. I believe life is commonplace across the universe.

@ghost-of-a-duke saidI could say that too
On the contrary sir. I am quietly confident most of my knowledge is based on "fact-supported theories".
@ghost-of-a-duke saidAnd????

So what!?
@kellyjay saidChristianity is not a fact-supported theory. (Hence the need for faith).
I could say that too
