The most frequent player of the victim card in this community over the years has been galveston75 who, on occasions, has started threads with OPs that were victim cards played, straight off the bat.
He'd quote something in the NT about the persecution of Christians that he claimed, in combination with "God's people are all in agreement", was proof that his persecuted Christian group [i.e. the JWs who do get a rough deal in some places and who are all either on the same theological page or they are out on their ear, make no mistake] are "God's people".
In other words, them being victims was predicted in the Bible.
What scripture was that?
@fmf saidMost Christians in America today have no idea what persecution is.

If they can't force their way into public schools and preach THEIR message to our children, then they feel persecuted; even tho there is a church on just about every block. Get off you butt on Saturdays or Sundays and get your arse to church; and take your kids with you. that's what they're there for. Schools are for learning academics, not church. duh! "See, their persecuting us." poor us."😢 This Christian is sick of that BS. Send your children to a Christian school then. That's what many Catholics do.
@fmf saidOft used passage from Acts 5:40-42:
Is there anything in scripture that gives Christians licence to play the victim card?
...when they had called for the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41 So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name. 42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.
It tends to be over-used. Sometimes Christians act quite obnoxiously and then quote this verse when they reap a backlash.
Edit: Perhaps if you are a missionary in China or some place that lacks freedom of religion, you can justly quote this. On an internet forum, not so much.
@fmf said“I'm really, really, really sorry that your life is so damned boring that you have to continually bully me over absolutely true statements I've made here. And too bad for you, but you will never get me to apologize for anything I've done, no matter how much you bully me or how much you try to silence me or diminish me.” (sic)

From the general forum.
@kingdavid403 saidSeveral of the Christians in this forum clearly think they are being persecuted by the challenges they get.
Most Christians in America today have no idea what persecution is.
Sonship is class example with threads like Thread 192393 revealing his pious sense of righteous indignation as he absolves those who have persecuted him. Galveston75 is another who loves to take some lashes for Jehovah.
But as BiggDog points out, it’s all about the name of Jesus. The name of Jesus is the ONLY thing the bible sanctions as warranting being persecuted for.
Being a self-anointed, self-sanctified casually dishonest, evasive, stubborn regurgitator of dogma is NOT a valid reason to cry “persecution!”
Michael Ramsden hits that topic of playing the victim card very well. The points about victimhood are pretty big. I used to have the talk where you can watch it, but now I can only find the audio version, so apologies for that. I think I posted it years ago in the Culture forum.
