The onslaught of ad hominem arguments and the slick dodging of the question under study are truly befitting of this forum. I think the King made his point in his first post. The reluctant leader, whose presidency was foisted on him... It could be the basis for an amusing story...maybe even funnier than the Life of Brian! And I suppose President equals God for some, so he could really on the money with this one.
One thing--Lincoln may never have said as much, but he acted like a president. Not to mention he was elected. The Man of Sorrows...what did he act like? (I've probably missed the point of this discussion entirely).
Originally posted by Bosse de NageI'm not so sure he acted like a president. He didn't act like the kind of president I think he should have acted like. Do you know why he grew his beard? To hide. Do you think that the "president" could use such a basic disguise? Clearly not. And how was Lincoln killed? He was shot at the theatre. What kind of "President" is sitting around enjoying a play when there is tons of work to be done at reconstructing the country he ruined by his crusade to wipe out dissenters? No sir, Lincoln didn't act like a president, let alone a good president to be worshipped by generations of orthodox Americans. But I thank you for recognizing his interesting silence on the issue of his office.

The false beard wouldn't wash today though.
Just how far has Lincoln-worship gone?

How far has worship gone? Well, if he was a fraud, which seems to be getting clearer and clearer with every post, then our black brothers and sisters still belong in slavery. Also, have you looked at your five dollar bill or your penny recently? How many other false presidents are sported on our coinage? Also, how many fifth grade text books expose Lincoln for the fake that he was? Our American Indoctrination Committee (the public schools) is nothing more than a propaganda warehouse for the promotion of false history in the name of American Orthodoxy. It's the one, true state religion.

His "whiteface" act, replete with the kind of folksy eccentricity which the name Rastus evokes to this day, gulled the White House completely. Is it any wonder that the "president" enjoyed theatre?

This thread has become quite amusing. My favorite part is that nobody has reacted to sonhouse's "What difference does it make that he didn't say it? Judge him by his actions" post which, for anybody who may still be interested in the real discussion here, is one of the points the original poster is attempting to make.
