Here's another to consider:
Dan Haren 6-2 1.70 ERA ( best among all starters ) 21BB 70SO
13 Games Started with 12 Quality Starts (best in baseball)
Quality starts is a stat that I think should be considered more and more when comparing starters. Won-loss records can be influenced by things beyond a pitchers control. And ERA can be thrown way out of proportion by one bad outing. Although ERA is still a good stat to use when comparing.
Originally posted by myteamtrulystinksBy definition it's "three runs or less in six innings". If you look at the pitchers with the most quality starts very few, if any, have an ERA OF 4.5.
i think Haren is very good, but I belive quality starts are overrate. Giving up 3 runs in 6 innings gives you a 4.5 era. that's just not quality to me.
In today's baseball, I'll take 5 starters who give up 3 runs or less in six innings every time they go out there. And I'd lay odds my team makes the playoffs😉
