Add Chris Young of the Padres to the list. He is number 1 in the NL right now, with Santana being number 1 in the AL.

Oh man, the Tigers took your boy Santana out to the woodshed tonight. Yeah, they brought out the whippin' stick. Almost made me feel sorry for the guy. That drops him down to an embarrassing 11-7 and pretty much puts an end to this silly talk about "pitcher of the year."

Another 7 scoreless innings for C. Young tonight. ERA down to about 1.86, I think. He'd have twice as many wins if he weren't on the team with the lowest batting average in the league.

I'll be watching Johan Santana up close and personal this evening. First time. Can't wait.

See what you did? Six runs in five innings against Santana, dropping him to 11-8. It was that negative karma you brought to the Skydome. Or Rogers Center, or whatever they call it now. Anyway, shall we just call the contest now and give the AL crown to Haren?

Why can't they grow grass in that stadium? Doesn't the roof retract far enough?

Nevermind the six runs, the Jays hit FOUR dingers off him in five innings. He looked anything but special last night, but in all fairness, the Jays have always had Santana's number so I'm not surprised at the outcome.

As for The Rogers Dome, that building is a goddamn monstrosity. The sooner they implode it and replace it with a real ballpark, the better.

The Rogers Dome had the unfortunate distinction of being on the leading edge of the new breed of ballparks. They still hadn't quite shaken off the effects of the 70s era monstrosities. It was sort of a transitional stadium between the old and the new. I was there a few years ago and was underwhelmed. Astroturf looks uglier and uglier with each passing year.

Pretty spot on, although the Sky Centre has fieldturf now instead of astroturf. How's Comerica Park? I hope to see a game there soon.

Comerica is an excellent park, in my opinion. It's very open, unlike Tiger Stadium. You can walk around the whole thing. I haven't been to any of the other newer stadiums, so I can't really compare it firsthand.

A real stadium? I have no desire to sit by the lake in the freezing cold april may and september night time games.

There is a reason we built a dome. But they've made a tonne of improvements the last 2 years. The astro turf is gone too. Come back when the dome is open on a nice july afternoon.

Do they have grass? If it's not grass then despite whatever fancy name you wish to call it, it's merely some variation of astroturf.

anyone care to crown Halladay the winner of this contest? The man missed weeks due to injury and is now only 1 game back in wins...He'll be the league leader by season's end

Halladay has to be considered with his ability to control entire games and be a threat to go the distance each time he gets on the mound. He's the fastest working and most efficient pitcher in baseball and he gets results.

Haren has been consistently good all year, so he would definitely be my no. 2.
