Originally posted by darvlayThat is pure. I got to eavesdrop on a couple of his tirdes with Ron Luciano. OMG they were hysterical. My favorite one was one day, Weaver has a hangover that won't quit. Luciano is the first base umpire. Weaver hated Luciano because he thought he showboated as an umpire. His trademark was to point his finger at a hitter like it was a gun and he would shoot them when he was calling them out. Weaver always hated it. Luciano was actually a pretty funny guy. I met him once and he confirmed that there was no love lost between he and Weaver. At any rate, Weaver has a hangover and wants to get tossed from the game so he can go into the clubhouse and lay down. Luciano knows Weaver is feeling puny. It is a day game and it is about 98 degrees. The first hitter of the game for the Orioles was Al Bumbry who was a speedy outfielder. He tries to bunt his way on and is called out at first on a bang bang play. Weaver charges out of the dugout like a madman running straight to Luciano and he starts the tirade with "You big stupid dago MF. You couldn't get a call right if it bit you on your big fat ass. How can they allow you to stay in this league and collect a paycheck in good faith? You are the biggest piece of crap I have ever seen." Now the entire time Weaver is spewing, Luciano is sitting there quietly, grinning from ear to ear, not saying a word. That was strange enough because Luciano could talk and scream with the best of them. Well Earl looks at Luciano smiling and says "What the hell are you smiling at you big dumb dago? I guess you are gonna try and throw me out, aren't ya?" Luciano just keeps smiling and very calmly says "No Earl, I am not going to throw you out." Earl says "Why the hell not you dumb sonofabitch?" Luciano says, "Earl, it is hot as hell out here and I am going to be in this miserable heat all day and so are you and your lousy hangover." Weaver goes nuts and calls him every name in the book and starts kicking dirt, the whole bit. Luciano just smiles. The home plate ump comes over and is about to give Weaver the heave ho when Luciano stops him and pulls the ump aside. The home plate ump just starts laughing, turns around and walks back to the plate. Weaver is feeling the effects of the hangover and realizes he isn't getting tossed, so he marches back to the dugout and stays there the rest of the game, grumbling. Now, the story really gets funny the next evening when they are set to play a night game. The umpires are gathered at home plate prior to the game and the two managers bring out their lineups for the game. Just as soon as Weaver reaches the batter's boxes, Luciano looks at Weaver, smiles, and asks him how is feeling? Weaver says he is feeling much better today but he felt like hell yesterday and that was why he tried to get tossed. Luciano says "I knew what you were up to and that's why I wouldn't toss you. Oh and Earl, never call me a dumb Dago again...Yer outta here!" and he throws Weaver out of the game. Weaver goes nuts on him. It was truly a two day classic.

Originally posted by no1marauderI never said those words, more of the point is that it doesn't matter. Are you seriously saying the Yankees would beat the dodgers right now??? Even the most ignorant, biased Yankee lover couldn't delude himself to believe that.
The AL killed the NL in intra-league AGAIN this year. Are you seriously arguing that the NL West is as good as the AL East???? Not even the most ignorant, biased Yankee hater could possibly believe that (well, maybe the MOST ignorant, biased Yankee hater could delude himself sufficiently to believe that).

PK - Are you waiting for the first games to finish before making your prediction again?

I know my first round picks were terrible. I have no excuse to offer.

All right - ROUND 2!
BoSox over Rays in 7
Dodgers over Phillies in 7
No reason for these picks, I just want to see Manny v. the Sox.
Rays over Bosox in 6
Rays have been nearly impossible to beat at home all season and have beaten the Bosox in Boston to take the regular season series
Dodgers are just simply on a roll that doesn't seem to stop.
