You don't understand how to read a stat sheet. By the numbers you seem to think are soooooooooooooo important (points per game), the Lakers are 4th in offense but 20th in defense. The Spurs are 26th in offense but 3rd in defense. So the Lakers are "unbalanced" too by your "logic".
Where in the hell are you seeing this 20th in defense? And in that link you showed me, the Lakers still led in 7 out of 12 categories on defense.

NO IT IS NOT ONLY REBOUNDS. If you paid more attention and looked over you would see that it is also for blocked shots and steals per game, both of which the Lakers still have better stats on.
Becuase the opposing teams have many more possessions because of the pace the games are played at. The Lakers allow 11 more points a game and the Spurs' defense allows a lower percentage of successful shots against both 2s and 3s.

Points Allowed Per Game 101.5 20

Learn how to read. Do you really think giving up 101.5 points per game in this era's NBA makes you 4th in the league?

EDIT: Here's a better link: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/statistics?stat=teamstatoff&sort=pts&league=nba&avg=pg&split=999&order=false&season=2008&seasontype=2

As you said the OBJECT OF BASKETBALL IS TO SCORE MORE POINTS THAN THE OTHER TEAM, so it doesn't matter how many points you are giving up as long as you are scoring more and the Lakers are doing that.

As are the Spurs. But your claim was that the Lakers were a better defensive team and that's just plain silly.

And as for the field goal percentage, they only have .002 better opp field goal percentage than the Lakers. That is not even 1 percent dude so that stat is about even.

Ok we will even throw out the rebounds per game, but how are the Spurs better defensively if the Lakers are still blocking more shots and getting more steals per game?

Yes it is close. I never said the Lakers were a poor defensive team though ppg makes them look below average. The Lakers play good defense; the Spurs play good offense. That's all I'm saying.

I never said they didn't play good offense or defense. I just said the Lakers are better in both categories. Defense is not all about how many points your opposition scores, it is also about REBOUNDS, BLOCKS, STEALS, opponent field goal percentage. And as far as I'm concerned, the field goal percentage is as good as even so they only thing the Spurs lead in is OPPG.

🙄

Figure it out. If you allow another team an extra 10 possessions or more a game, you're going to have more opportunities to have blocks and steals, aren't you?

The idea that the Lakers are a better defensive team than the Spurs is absolutely ludicrous. That you seem to actually believe such rubbish only shows your extreme bias. It's amazing that the Lakers who are so obviously superior in every way to the Spurs have exactly one more win and the same amount of losses as San Antonio coming into today's game. And the Spurs have waxed them in two games and lost a close decision in their other head to head.

And it also doesn't take a ROCKET SCIENTIST to realise that if you play a slower game, then your opponent will not have as many chances to score and therefore will not score as many points. So it is absolutely ridiculous to compare the 2 teams OPPG because they play 2 different styles. The Spurs are a slow, half-court team whereas the Lakers are a fast-paced, full-court team. So obviously the Spurs are going to allow fewer OPPG than the Lakers, that is no indication that they are better on defense.

Thanks for agreeing with me since you started this argument by claiming that the Spurs were one of the "worst offensive teams" in the NBA because they were 27th in the league in scoring!

In truth, the Spurs' offensive efficiency per possession is better than average.

The Lakers look like a below average team defensively because they are 20th in the league in points allowed per game.

In truth, the Lakers are an above average defensive team. But the stats show the Spurs are among the defensive elite.

But if you look at the point differential. On average the Lakers scored almost 7 points more than their opponents whereas the Spurs on average score 4-5 more than their opponent.
