Try playing hurling! There's a difference to me between hard play, which is great to watch, and downright thuggery.
I suppose you think spear-tackles are a joy to watch (not in relation to SA)? If not, then you're a hypocrite? Don't like it when the game gets hard, eh? Typical northern hemisphere lad. 🙄

yes your right there is a difference between hard play and thuggery, however like buffalobill says, name two occasions where the bok were thugs?
I would say I'm not a typical northern lad, and hypocrite no. I said a lot of northern lads, not all. If its a fight or battle of words you want go some place else, this is a good rugby thread and we have no wish to accommodate the various plebs on the site that spend their lives goading others to massage thier egos.
Anyway, I am going to go out on a limb here and say that you are not a big rugby fan, and probably never played rugby at any great level for a number of seasons. No a spear-tackle is not a joy to watch, in the same way tackling a player in the air is not, its dangerous play full stop. However it is a part of the game and you will never get rid of it. Players get caught up in the heat of a game, they take split second decisions to do things that they shouldn’t and know they shouldn’t, there is a part of rugby that says if you can get away with it its legal (talking more about minor infringements than dangerous play). The thing about rugby is the players step on that pitch because they love the game, they are fully aware of the dangers of the game and fully accept them.
If you have ever watched the bok years back you will have seen perhaps a thug filled side although Im not sure thats a great choice of words, I am afraid that Sundays performance by the bok was outstanding, the Samoans were in their face and the bok did not retaliate bar one bad tackle. As for their rugby, well any true rugby/bok fan will know that they have suffered in the past with their backs ball handling and vision, I believe the addition of Eddie Jones to the coaching staff has paid dividends and you saw that with great handling and back play on Sunday by the bok. They are real contenders, it really could be a bok all balck final.

I bet WhiteKnight loved that bit in the photo. Nothing like a bit of hair pulling in a rugby match. Seperates the men from the boys. 🙄

LOL! He bloody closelined the guy AFTER looking down at where he was. Way to be blinded by your patriotism.
I just don't believe Schalkie would do anything like that. He is one of the cleanest rugby players I've ever seen and I truly believe there was no bad intent on his part.
Burger is playing too hard a game to have time to think about fouling the opposition.
When you think about the incident with that in mind, you can easily see he was always going for the ball.
Period.
Originally posted by CrowleyJust seen that Burger has had his suspension reduced from 4 to 2 games, which I think is fair, the 4 game ban was harsh. The reason sited for the reduction was that on video evidence the panel agreed that for the significant part of the time involved he was attempting to win the ball. Fair play to the appeal committee for making a tough decision but clearly the correct one.

Schalk's suspension reduced
September 13 2007 at 11:43AM
Paris - The Rugby World Cup 2007 appeal committee on Thursday reduced Springbok flanker Schalk Burger's four match suspension to two matches.
This was announced after an appeal hearing by the RWC appeal committee comprising chairperson justice Wyn Williams, Bruce Squire QC and judge Guillermo Tragant, into the incident where Burger tackled a Samoan player in the air during the Boks' opening match last Sunday.
The committee determined that the judicial officer had made an error in his first instance decision, in that he was wrong to find that the player was not at any time during the incident intending to win the ball.
"On the basis of the video evidence and the transcript of the initial hearing the appeal committee decided the player was attempting to win the ball for a significant part of the time involved.
"However, the committee found that the player ultimately realised that he was not going to catch the ball and instinctively adjusted his approach to tackle the opposing player.
"The committee concluded that the tackle was a dangerous tackle but noted that that the arm of Burger was withdrawn following contact with the opposing player. The committee decided the offence should be categorised as a lower level entry offence rather than a mid range offence and the suspension was reduced to two matches," the statement says.
Burger will therefore miss Friday evening's match against England as well as next Saturday's match against Tonga. - Sapa

JUSTICE!
But maybe it's a good thing, -the boks will steamroll over England without Schalk, and he will be rested and mad by the quarters.

JUSTICE!
Edit:
I actually did have more to say than that...
So now we have it -- Farrell at 10. To be perfectly honest, as an England supporter, I'm more excited about seeing Faz take on that role than either Wilko or Barkley. The man is a legend, and it's his chance to show what he's made of.
It's just a shame that he has Noon outside him at 13. Sure no-one is going to run through Noon, but I wouldn't mind seeing someone with a bit more attacking flair in this position (of course, Ashton didn't really have another option with both Tait and Hipkiss being ill...)

In '95 SA had such a team. As history allways favour the winners, it's easy to forget that NZ allso had such a team in '95, and SA won by divine inervention.

Ha! Another twist... could these be mind games from the England camp? Or are they really in complete disarray?
This year i predict a final between SA and Australia. Allthough the AB's really look good, I think the expierience of the Aussies will beat them in the end.
Hope i'm wrong!

I think England have real problems at flyhalf. Catt's long in the tooth and I never really rated him myself.
Time will tell, but the team that wins this one gets the high road - avoiding Australia and New Zealand until the final.

On paper, the boks can't lose this game, but the English have always been a difficult team for us to beat.
Must win game.
An easy win and SA were cruising at the end. England with the exception of Robinson were woeful and completely at sixes and sevens. The pack were completely anonymous. On this performance I'm tempted to wager some money on Samoa over England.
Very satisfying if you're a SA supporter and I feel they still have some gas in the tank to move up a gear.
