The penalty try awarded was also questionable. Hell, Samoa brings down a scrum 5 times in a row and SA doesn't get a penalty try - Namibia gets scrummed back a bit, some heads pop out and Ireland gets a penalty try?
I didn't see that coming...
I don't think anyone saw it coming. I mean, Namibia had never even scored a point before in the WC.

I very much doubt it.
Well I suppose that's a bit of what I hope will happen... but wouldn't that be exciting!

i'm irish i'm hoping
if i was religious *praying*
that they beat the french
i hate them
they beat us so often 🙁
I watched all of Fr vs Arg and havnt yelled that much at a television that much in years. Full credit to the Argies. Every man tackled around the boot-laces and put their body on the line. Did you see how big that long haired French bugger was?? Geeez! He was nicked-named "Jesus" by the end.
I watched half the All Black game, they were cruising, not exerting themselves. (Shudder!)
The South Africans played well once they ignored the physical baiting the Samoans.
The Aussies did well to cut their teeth on the Japenese team. Just what the doctor ordered to instill a bit of team spirit.
Ireland is going to have prolems if their forwards don't sort themselve out.
Their scrum was not dominant and their lineouts were shaky against an amateur team. At ruck time the Namibians fought hard for the ball and the Irish forwards didn't commit enough players to make sure they got quality ball for the very talented backs to use.
The backline was in a panic sometimes, but that was mostly due to the forwards not doing their job well enough.
Originally posted by CrowleyThe Irish scrum for the first hour or so was massacring the Namibians. They pushed Namibia back at will and would have had a push-over try only for Namibia pulling the scrum down. That was about all that worked properly though.

France will know what they have to do, they have to beat Ireland and get the extra point for 4 tries, quite simply you will see an amazing display from France in that game.
Ireland against the pumas, well this could actually go either way, but I am betting that the Irish will nick it, however they will not get 4 tries and therefore not get the extra point.
It will come down to argentina and if they can continue to score tries and get the extra point against the other sides, either way, France will still win the group and probably Ireland second, thus the Irish meet the All Blacks and then fly home.
Christ guys, one good scrum at the opposition goal-line and a few times they scrummed the Namibians back a meter or 2 is not 'domination'.
Sure, the Irish scrum seemed pretty solid throughout the game, but the Namibians turned the scrum through the 90 twice in the game and a few times put some real pressure on the Irish scrum.
If you Irish supporters are happy with that performance from your tight 5, you're gonna see your asses against the big scrums of Argentina and France, when you can only barely keep some Namibian farmers in check.
So, Schalk Burger gets cited for a 'dangerous tackle' when he was pretty clearly going for the ball and gets suspended for 4 matches for an offense that earned him only a penalty in the game. I thought that was already harsh, but referees sometimes make little mistakes like that and thought that was the end of it.
Guess it's no surprise that the judiciary official was an Australian - The wallabies struggle to beat the boks on the field, so now they resort to taking our players out like this...
Brian Lima put in a much worse (actual) tackle on Andre Pretorius and wasn't even cited. What a farce.
I understand the IRB wants to stamp out dangerous play, but this is just ridiculous. Sometimes players will collide when going for high ball and the bigger one usually bumps over the smaller guy. Which is what happened there.
Originally posted by CrowleyNo it's not, I'm afraid. The Burger citing is because he swung his arm into the other guy's head when they were both in the air. The intent was pretty clear there. The difference between that and the Lima tackle, was that the Lima tackle was simply mistimed -- Burger was trying to injure the Samoan through foul play.

I can understand why you're upset though. Burger is possibly the worst possible player you could have lost. I think losing Vickery could work in the favour of England... Stevens is a better player IMO, we'll just have to see who can step up to the leadership role up front... (And Ashton's choice for captain is a tricky one. Any thoughts there?)
As for coming off badly from the citing commisioner, Emerick has it worst. It was a very poor/stupid tackle -- but 5 weeks? I think that's harsh.

So Burger mistimes his attempt to get the ball in the air and gets suspended.
Lima mistimes a tackle which could've taken an opponents' head off, knocks himself out in the process, looks like an ass in the process, so he gets off?
Bullsh_t. Buy a vowel dude.
Where's the consistency?
The IRB is trying to make an example here, but they've decided to use a player who never plays foully (sic?) and who genuinely had no bad intent.
The other decisions are also strange and inconsistent, as you said.
All the IRB is doing with these inconsistent judgments is making a mockery of the disciplinary system and they're detracting from the spectacle the World Cup is supposed to be.
I'm not really worried about losing The Incredible Schalk. We have great depth in the likes of Wikus Van Heerden who can almost fill Schalk's boots.
