This thread is about the Ashes. Please don't fill it with off topic posts about whether cricket is a good sport or not.

Thanks. 🙂
I don't know if cricket is a good sport or not. Please tell me all about it.

The Rules of Cricket

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in.

Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out.

When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out.

Sometimes you get men still in and not out.

When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in.

There are two men called umpires who stay out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out.

When both sides have been in and all the men have out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!

The first international cricket match ever was between the United States and Canada, so it's not like you Yanks have never heard of cricket!

A sign of getting old here. I will be rising at 5am this time and doing my accounts whilst listening to the final session on Test Match Special.

Previously, I would always stay up late for aussie tests, but this time I will going to bed after the BBC higlights package.

Ah I remember reading something about that the other day. Sometime in the 1800's was it ?

I have also been looking for an old cricket saying that goes something like

"When you are in you are out..... " anyone got any links to it. Google cant find anything.

Dear Australians,

I hope you had a good nights sleep. Because you won't have many more in the near future.

Bring it on.

Giles or Panesar?

We do need to get 20 wickets each test. But then who do the English want coming in to bat if we're 250-6?

I reckon Giles will get this match, but will be pretty ineffective, so Panesar will get the nod next test.

If we had our full bowling attack: Hoggard, Harmison, Flintoff, Jones - I would pick Giles for the added batting.
Without Jones I would pick Panesar to strengthen the bowling.
Simple.
Although I really like Anderson as a bowler, he needs to do Jones' job as well.

If we're 250-6 we're going to have to bowl them out. Panesar every time. Even if Giles hadn't been out for a year.

I read somewhere that Fletcher wanted to play Flintoff as one of four bowlers but doesn't think he is fit enough for that yet, so he will have to only play 5 batsmen leaving the batting weak. And you know when Fletcher starts talking about the batting being weak he's going to play Giles instead of a real bowler.
Well now I've been proven right can we have Fletcher's head on a plate please?

Aussies 1-109 at lunch - things already looking ominous for the English.
