no1: Why??? Only about 15 more people voted today and the standings aren't going to change in any significant way. It is now officially two months without any Game Mods; why should we wait another week for a few more votes that won't change anything to dribble in?

Representation!!!!

I know that the standings will not change. I know that I am not going to get another 168 votes to carry me into the top 3. However, I feel that everyone should get a chance to vote. I think it is now fairly unlikely that there will be a global PM to subscribers, which is a shame. But this thread has been top of the announcements forum since Russ posted - there is a chance more people could see it. Any time the site goes down, there is a timeout suspension for "some time". The reason given is that not everyone can play every day. The same applies for votes.

As for two months, what difference does another week make? Analysis takes time, except in the case of blatant cheats, who get banned anyway - or else how do you explain the 3(b) bannings this month? For more complicated cases, a week makes little difference either way.

The vote has been set up, which is good. Let it run its course, give as many people as possible the chance to vote, and then move on.

I vaguely remember a few soldiers and/or sailors being irritated because the "Greatest Democracy in the World" told them that their votes would not have made any difference anyway, and denied them the right to have their vote counted.

PYABO

I hope it's about what you have said it will be, that's a fine rating. I didn't know you had one based on the posts here on this or the last page.

I think it has little to do with correspondence ratings, for some it may be similar... for other it may not be. Much like comparing bullet to 2 hour games.

Do you have a provisional rating? I have not seen where you talked about this and it's just a point of interest and not part of an argument one way or the other. I thought you were speculating.

Provisional USCF? No, I went to a club to see if I liked it enough to join - that's where I played those unrated games - I wasn't impressed by the club, decided to keep my money until I found something both closer and with more members.

I've played many games OTB at my school - they're more casual than typical OTB, but some pretty good players show up - I generally kick some ass there though.

I looked up PYABO in urbandictionary...it didn't have a definition, what exactly is that supposed to stand for?

Ha!

Put Your Ass Back On!

Join the USCF, otherwise you can't speculate a rating. It's fun, I just ran out of time. I am 1282p with a draw (Blown Win) against a 1700 rated player. I'd like to find that PGN... I was better than he thought, but I got into a position of 3 rep I believe.

Also, I'm not trying to fight with you... if you are imagining a tone switch that to light banter perhaps... or kidding around fun. I feel you think I'm taking a run at you and I am not.

I never joined ICC.

I was on Playchess from Jan 2005-Jan 2006 and played about 50 games. I recall my rating being in the high 1700's or low 1800's. I just rejoined a few months ago after buying Fritz10 but can't seem to find my prior games or rating. Do they wipe them if membership lapses? I may have used a diffent user nick; I can't remember for sure - I have that info stored in a box somewhere if you need it so badly.

I played on FICS as BigMarauder and that rating got as high as the 1790's, though it dropped to 1680 after a few losses, some on time when I tried to play shorter games as practice. I was in the STC Bunch and played in at least one of their tournaments with a positive score and also in the 45 45 league.

I don't play blitz for obvious reasons.

If the vote was binding, I might agree with you. It is not and as you agree the standings won't change anyway (or if they do it would be only minor changes), I see no purpose in wasting more time.

It's been two months without Game Mods, geeza; you can always say an incremental increase in delay isn't that big of a deal, but the delay is now a serious matter. There are blatant cheats acting with impunity right now. The Cludi matter needs to be resolved. In light of those concerns, giving a few people an extra chance to cast a fairly meaningless vote in a non-binding "election" pales in importance.

I'm not worried about your old nick...what's the new one though?

I may not be able to even look it up though, as I've stopped playing there, who knows how my account stands. They do some stupid stuff at PC.

A player here who had a rating in the 1600's and was a Game Mod for a while, decided to try a USCF OTB tourney for the first time about when I did - August 2005. He went 0-4 losing to players rated 1400 OTB and lower.

You don't know until it happens. It seems to me logical that players who are willing to sacrifice the time and make the effort to play in OTB tourneys would be, on average, better, more motivated players than those who just click on a computer.

The same as here, but I haven't played any games yet. I don't want to play blitz and need to set aside a few hours if I can even get a 45 30 or 60 5 or whatever. As I said, I only got it because I brought a Fritz10 though I do intend to use it for tourney prep; perhaps next week as another Studio Quad is coming up on March 30.

I'm not adverse to playing some games against you SOMEWHERE in the real time sites, if we can work up a mutually agreeable site and time.

I wonder if by demanding the voting be closed, and the mods picked, one just might be delaying the process simply saying that?

I'll play anybody on ICC - but that's the only site I play on now, my account on PC is now expired.

I'm not "demanding" anything; it's called a "suggestion". If you believe that the Site Admins are irrational enough to base their decisions on a wish to be contrary, then I don't see the point of a vote at all.
