I have yet to find that recording. I did pick up Miles Ahead today.
Looks like it's out of print, though Amazon seems to have used copies of the "Highlights" disc for under $10 including shipping. I'm glad I picked up the box set when I did. Looks like it may be worth quite a bit more than I paid for it. Several resellers of the box set claim that only all the discs save one are still in shrink wrap. Doesn't surprise me. It's quite different from anything else I've heard from him.

Did you check out the Shepp link?

I know Shepp. I was just kidding around with you. You have mentioned a fondness for the avante garde in the past I believe.

You remember correctly. I realized that you were needling me about that, but didn't realize that you were familiar with the "kinder, gentler" Shepp 🙂

Went to a Joe Lovano concert Saturday night with his band Us Five. The band features two drummers, piano and a fatasic lady bass player named Esperanza Spaulding. this bass player is electric.

One of the finest concerts I've ever attended.

I love Art Pepper. I saw him perform in the 70's. What a thrill.

Love his playing. Not so crazy about the individual. Have you read "Straight Life"? Easily one of the most fascinating biographies (in this case autobiography) I've ever read.

Must have been a treat to hear him live.
