John Coltrane, Giant Steps

Predictable, maybe, but I like the album.

Gotta be one the most difficult jazz tunes to play on the keyboards. Every note is a different chord. I love the melody, that's for sure.

Alexander Von Schlippenbach "Monk's Casino"
Axel Dorner
Rudi Mahall
Jan Roder
Uli Jennessen

Steve Lacy "Only Monk", "More Monk"

The Sclippenbach is a 3 CD set covering the complete works (70 compositions) of Thelonious Monk. Highly recommended.

The Lacy discs cover only 20 Monk compositions. Highly recommended to those without an aversion to solo soprano sax.

Haven't read the thread, don't listen to much jazz - does Nils Petter Molvaer count? 'Khmer' rocks!

I saw Buddy Rich in concert a few times. Quite the entertainer and when he did his solos the room was on fire.

And you stayed to listen? That sounds like a H&S violation to me...

I think that Antiibes is his best live recording. You?

It's probably my favorite, though there's much to recommend the discs from the spring of '64.

Miles Davis - Agharta. Pangaea as well.

Controversial concerts from Japan. To me they sound like a journey, like from a train, where the mood continues to change. Pete Cosey is really good on these recordings.
