I think you'll find that Britain hasn't been 'overrun' since 1066. Almost 1000 years.
You didn't say that you have to handle the fact that civilians get killed - you said you'd happily kill them if it reduced your chance of dying, and that makes you cowardly scum.
Hyperthetical scenario:
You and your buddies have got pinned down by a sniper in ...[text shortened]... ualties clearly runs a much higher risk of your guys taking casualties. Which do you do?
I killed VERY young combatants though.
I've "handled" it OK, had a little anger problem when I first got back, but OK after a year or so.
I'd kill most anyone when I was 18 yrs old .. if it meant me or my mates would live.
I've never said I was proud of it, just that that was my experence of being in a warzone. That's why we always said "it don't mean nothin'".. 'cause we couldn't let it mean nothin' if we were to survive.
After it's over when your safely home .. it begins to mean somethin', when faces show up in your dreams, it means something, but when your life is on the line you'll shoot a 12 yr old kid if he doen't stop when you tell 'em to. In particular when you've seen mates ambushed this way .. by children.
Hyperthetical scenario .. you follow your leader and do what you're told to do.
If he screws it up and mates are uslessly killed he's loses his troops trust in future engagements and risks being fragged.

Lol! Even as a conservative, I will say that's funny.
Funny how much you're GDP per person has improved when compared to France since then. Wonder why?
British people work longer hours than anybody else in Western Europe, they use more drugs, have higher teenage pregnancy rates, have less paid holiday and die younger.
Yup. Capitalism sure is great!

Jammer, I am afraid marauder is right... insulting requires timing and accuracy.
For example, this is a great moment to point out that in the remote case marauder happens to be a lawyer and not a pimpled, bullied outcast... then it is natural he spends most of his time here and no longer in the court room, where a judge would have already got him disbarred for not controlling his temper.
😉
Is that right, marauder?
C'mon, now insult me, man! yeeee haaaaa
Hiroshima, blah blah blah atom bomb, natter natter natter wasn't needed, blah blah blah military leaders (shouty letters now) AT THE TIME, gobble gobble. Civilians, The Kids, women, fluffy bunnies and cute puppies, etc. etc.
You might want to sit down, ladies. Cross your legs and hold onto your skirts. I got yer reason right here.
Rubble don't cause trouble.

At present time, nukes serve no purpose in warfare and I don't see them ever being used. If WWII was happening in the present day, I highly doubt Japan would be the recipient of a couple of mushroom clouds.
Now, that being said, if the need ever arises in the future (I can't even imagine a scenario) I would not protest their use. Everyone is a little too afraid of them. They go boom and somebody has to clean up the mess.
For me, its like real estate. Location, location, location. Its all in where they are used. Making a smoking hole in a city won't get much support from me, but if it was somehow necessary to use a tactical on an entrenched army, It wouldn't scare me much.
