No you don't do whatever it takes to get home - you do your job, you do your best to get you and your buddies home in one piece, but you do not do it at the expense of sacraficing civilians.

Yes I do. I lived it for a year of my life.
The fact I sicken some Euro is meaningless. Your opinion has been defunct for decades.
The fact if frightens you is no surprise either.
It scared me to the point where i'd do those things.
I never saw anyone go out of the way to kill civilians, but I saw plenty of them caught in the middle .. and killed. It bothers you some, in particular children, but when you're around a lot of killing and see a lot of bodies you become numb to it.
It's simple survival ... life in black and white.

Our mantra was .. "It don't mean nothin'"

and, yes .. in the end it's all about you and your mates .. and getting home alive.

Ask your older Countrymen .. how many times have you been over run?
That hasn't happened to America .. and that's one reason we want to get home so bad.

You didn't say that you have to handle the fact that civilians get killed - you said you'd happily kill them if it reduced your chance of dying, and that makes you cowardly scum.

Hyperthetical scenario:
You and your buddies have got pinned down by a sniper in the upper floors of a building. You could call in the Apaches to take him out, but they'd take out the whole building and you know there's civilians in the floors below. Or you could run a flanking manover under covering fire to get into the building, then clear it room by room until you neutralise the sniper. Minimising civilian casualties clearly runs a much higher risk of your guys taking casualties. Which do you do?
