@averagejoe1 saidIf you pay wages to your workers that are so low they need my tax dollars, then I am subsidizing your business. Your business is freeloading. Not every business, just those that pay wages so low workers need assistance from the rest of us.
Phranny......OK, my business benefits from the street which runs to my business and frankly, from the military jet protecting me overhead. We get that.
But Phranny, I pay taxes that cover these items, and the deli business down the street pays the same thing. If everyone pays for the same overall benefits, how in the world do you single out my business as if I am b ...[text shortened]... share' (ughh, Obama term) of taxes for that support, for that infrastructure. I am thus an island.

@Eladar exactly what programs are you referring to for those who do not work? We have unemployment insurance to cover when you lose your job. You cannot get it if you quit or get fired which is different from being laid off. Programs for hungry kids like WICK? Health insurance for people who have none? People who are disabled? The U.S. has a meager social safety net compared to the rest of the industrialized world.
@phranny saidAll of the programs that could be abused to get money for not working. You can collect unemployment if you get fired.

@eladar saidThat depends, generally, on what you get fired for:
All of the programs that could be abused to get money for not working. You can collect unemployment if you get fired.
State law determines whether a fired employee can collect unemployment. Generally speaking, an employee who is fired for serious misconduct is ineligible for benefits, either entirely or for a certain period of time (often called a "disqualification period"😉. But the definition of misconduct varies from state to state.
In many states, an employee's misconduct has to be pretty bad to render the employee ineligible for unemployment benefits. An employee who is fired for being a poor fit for the job, lacking the necessary skills for the position, or failing to perform up to expected standards will likely be able to collect unemployment. But an employee who acts intentionally or recklessly against the employer's interests will likely be ineligible for unemployment benefits. Other states take a harder line, finding that employees who are fired for violating a workplace policy or rule won't be eligible for unemployment benefits, at least for a period of time.

That's a bit different from claiming that these people are "refusing to work".

@phranny saidYou disagree with the goobermint spending your tax money in this way, I disagree with the goobermint spending my money that way (actually quite a few ways) suzi doesn't like it being spent another way.
If you pay wages to your workers that are so low they need my tax dollars, then I am subsidizing your business. Your business is freeloading. Not every business, just those that pay wages so low workers need assistance from the rest of us.
The solution: Drastically reduce the size and scope of goobermint, local or national, let you spend your money the way you like.
There're the makings of a Libertarian somewhere in there Phranny, keep up the good work.

@phranny saidAll of the above bespeaks Socialism. I don’t agree with the tenets of Socialism. Y’all all get in that bed with Bernie. Creepy.
@AverageJoe1 workers deserve safe work places. They deserve a living wage. I am talking about people who work. As for your comments about families, if people had affordable and accessible birth control, families would be smaller and abortions would go way down. Families that work full time ought to be able to afford a family, shelter, etc. To say that the working poor should ...[text shortened]... and indentured servitude. In your world view, workers have zero rights or control over their labor.
I’ll thank you to let me teach my children to be independent and make good choices. You tell your kids about govt.
You know, Bernie often says every person (he does not say citizen) deserves healthcare. You too are saying that.
They absolutely do not.

@no1marauder saidNo argument here. You are correct. 3.5% unemployment is being heralded as a great accomplishment. But Libs like you say, oh no, not good enough. “Everybody deserves a living wage job”, which is hogwash. The successful in our society have funded welfare programs for the down and out.
The capitalist system has the built in disadvantage of not being able and/or willing to employ everyone. As humans formed societies for mutual protection, it would be contrary to its very purpose to have members of said society starve to death because of an inefficient economic system. Thus, IF you are going to have a capitalist economic system based on private property w ...[text shortened]... fare system if you are going to accomplish the basic goal of society i.e. protection of its members.
Now, if you will get out of our way, we will continue to do good things and be the number one country in the world, welfare not withstanding . Are you folks truly dreaming of Utopia? Get a grip.
@wolfgang59 saidPeople who buy it, like an insurance policy on your car or house, or people who qualify under government programs. Not talking about ER.
Who does deserve healthcare?

@livineasy4 saidFurther, there is nothing in the Constitution about healthcare.
People who buy it, like an insurance policy on your car or house, or people who qualify under government programs. Not talking about ER.

@wajoma saidEveryone and every animal deserves to eat or drink, food that is theirs. You see, those last 4 words throw a monkey wrench into a liberal’s brain.
Who deserves too eat. or drink?
@kazetnagorra saidThat’s all over, easy to find. MSNBC, Bernie, the aoc person. A lot of connecting up, as far as I can tell.
What do you think the tenets of socialism are?
