I'm a NZer Shav, and I've seen the so called safety net. When my parents were younger the pollies told them "Give us this money now, and we'll give it back later when you're old" Unfortunately the pollies that made that promise are gone along with most of the money.
Safety net? More like a couple of strands of rotted cotten. Unless you've made provisi ...[text shortened]... investing in the compulsory gummint scheme) you're gonig to fall....fallll....falllllll
Back in the heady days of Redmike-type fantasy (1946) they promised old age pensions, health care, and every other conceivable care 'from cradle to grave' for a compulsory deduction from one's salary/wages.
Inevitably this so-called insurance scheme faled to work as the Labourite politicians wasted the money with the result that the old-age pension is today worth peanuts, and the public health care is so abysmal that anyone who is able to do so buys into a private health care scheme. Ditto with education.

You don't have to have experienced something to have an understanding of how it will work.
Nobody, as yet, has experienced a communist system.
experienced a communist system but have been exterminated after persecution, imprisonment, and torture,
It is a fact that in terms of the sheer numbers killed off as a direct result of political policy, the communists have beaten the fascists by a factor of about 10 to 1. So much for your pipe-dreams in practice, you poor dupe.

One should read "The Fall of Berlin" by Anthony Beever. In it he objectively analyzes the atrocities by both the Nazi's and the Soviet Red Army in that final stage of the war. Do you ever wonder what happened to Soviet soldiers that were taken prisoner by the Nazi? Did the Red Army show them any compassion as they "liberated" Eastern Europe? No most of them were executed by the Red Army or sent to a Gulag for having the disloyalty to surrender to the Nazi's. What about Russian females that were taken prisoner and sent to Nazi work camps? They were unmercifully gang raped by the victorious Red Army soldiers. Many of them soon discovered that they were better off in a Nazi work camp.
Of course the communists here want to distance themselves as far as possible from the Soviet Union. Who can blame them. I wouldn't want to be associated with that nightmare either. But the reality is that the Soviet Union is the flagship communist regime. It is the ultimate example that we have to help us understand what would happen in a large scale communist system. On the other hand we have the United States as the flagship for Capitalism. Far from perfect for sure, but when you compare it side by side with the Soviet Union it is a no brainer.
