I’d like to get a one to one experience with a dolphin but I’m not a supporter of captivity so it probable won’t happen.

I’m just wondering why these EU citizens, I’m sure the welcoming EU would have made them citizens, are risking their lives across the English Channel to flee the EU using people traffickers, to reach this awful post Brexit hell hole you guys are often describing? It seems odd to me does it seem odd to you?
No. It doesn’t seem odd at all.
Perhaps they think the UK needs a helping hand to get up and running again?

All joking aside: they’re not EU citizens, they’re refugees.

The UK tory party has put forth a policy which is at odds with international agreements they’ve signed and extremely inhumane (the proposal is that if you enter a country illegally, you can’t ask for asylum… which is obviously fodder for the extreme right and practically a ban on many asylum seekers).

Gary Linneker from the BBC tweeted that the communication about this proposal from the tory party and press reminded him of the Nazi era propaganda (or something to this extent).

That has the right-wing media, who are extremely anti-BBC, up in arms. Squealing blue murder (as if being pro-humane is actually a political statement… oh, let’s be nice to people… ) and the BBC, bowed to this pressure and put Gary in a fridge to cool matters down.

But, Gary is very popular (as are the crisps he promotes) and many of his co-workers refused to work, while he was stuck in the proverbial freezer. And the whole sports section of the BBC ground to halt.

That’s what this is about:
Illegal propositions by the conservative party, pandering to a rabidly anti-immigrant, extreme right-wing bunch of little Englanders. And the right-wing tabloids grabbing every oppertunity to attack the BBC.

And Divegeester here, guzzling at the extremist teet of that propaganda.

Edit:

Just bumped into Jonathan Pie delicately explaining the matter:

If you are referring to the small boat migrants they are not EU citizens, either were talking at cross purposes, or your being incredibly flippant about an often tragic and always worrying situation, or your lying in the thread title.
“small boat migrants”

Surely they are either EU citizens or as Shav says “refugees”. Refugees fleeing France no less!

I mean how would a “migrant” manage to traverse the wonderful welcoming EU without being made a citizen?

“Refugees”

So they entered the wonderful welcoming EU from … sub Saharan African or wherever, travelled the breadth of the amazing EU without being made a citizen in any country they … shall we say “visited”. They then decided that the wonderful EU wasn’t for them and chose instead to risk their lives by crossing the English Channel to reach the UK. To the UK … this post brexit hell hole run by a racist right-wing government… a place falling apart since leaving the EU according some sources here.

Doesn’t add up Shav.
Why didn’t any of the EU countries they cross welcome them and make them citizens.
Why travel to this right-wing non-EU awful UK?

Probably because there were already enormous numbers of refugees in those countries

The “enormous numbers of refugees” in the EU countries is triggering other refugees to flee the EU?

Sounds like something isn’t working too well, doesn’t it.

Yeah it's hard to be geographically closer to failing states. Easier for you who are further away. If only France could trade places with Iceland.

This non sequitur by you makes me suspect that you’ve run out of ideas again.

So you’re going with flippant then.
You know you’re only one who is calling the EU wonderful, albeit sarcastically. They have there own dives and Bravermans to keep happy and when these particular refugees / economic migrants go straight through their territories they are probably quite relieved but you obviously feel that these other countries should be press ganging them into accepting their citizenship.
Anyway there’s nothing to get stressed about dive, we can rest easy in the knowledge that Brexit gave us back control of our borders 🥳

Ever heard of Schengen and the like?

If you request asylum in 1 EU country, it counts for the whole of the EU.
So, if the country you request asylum in refuses, then it counts for all EU countries.

So, those folk have to try a third country. Hence they go to Britain.

You open by calling me flippant and sarcastic, then dodge all my points, and close by being flippant and sarcastic.

Why would the EU refuse them asylum?

Why should the UK give them asylum?

Impossible to judge.
The immigration department judges if an applicant is asylum worthy.
An EU department can judge differently than a UK department.

And if you’re fleeing for your life, try, try again. Surely.

Great post.
As usual you’re not making any valid points you’re just trying to score points against your eternal bogeyman the EU.
When are you going to address the fact that the small boat migrants had the UK in mind from day one of their journey just as some had Germany or France in mind from day one of their journey.
Given that you’re lying when you claim that they are EU citizens, unless you’re accepting that they are UK citizens just by virtue of landing on the beaches of southern England what is your actual point?

I’ve made loads of valid points; you are just choosing to ignore them.

Why are you calling these people “small boat migrants”? They are illegal immigrants from France who like the rest of the EU have clearly rejected them. And I thought the EU was going to welcome immigrants!

They come from France, not a war torn country!

They are either EU citizens, or they are illegal immigrants who have been rejected by the EU, or who just feel that EU is a far less attractive settlement option than this post Brexit apocalypse.

Which is it Kev?
