@Sleepyguy saidWhat little influence the LP can claim comes from the fact that they have not joined D or R.
Just take their ball and go home in a huff? Why not just accept the reality that only a Democrat or Republican will win, and join one of those parties and try to influence it? Trump offered that explicitly and got booed for it. Kudos to him for trying. Too bad they're a bunch of prima donnas.
Trump's election was the perfect moment to attract TONS of anti- and never-Trumpers to a new, better conservative party, but they didn't go that direction.
@Sleepyguy saidIf only they threw in some social welfare, and minimum wage controls and forced wealth redistribution like the other guys, that'd make it all ok.
They already don't matter! That's the whole point! SMH
And build a wall, and feed the military contractors, and multi-billion dollar mega drug Co's, buy some votes with the voters own money, just be a little more like the stinking corrupt two main parties, that'd solve everything.
@spruce112358 saidYou think the LP maintains some influence by making sure the two major parties know they'll never get their votes?

Trump promises to put libertarians in his cabinet and you stand their and boo? C'mon man! What a bunch of babies
@Wajoma saidYou think that's what I'm advocating?

Seriously?
@Sleepyguy saidSounds a lot like appeasement and the party is better off without the appeasers.

@Wajoma saidBah!
Sounds a lot like appeasement and the party is better off without the appeasers.
You can go inside the tent where you can make a difference, or stay outside, feeling so god damned special, making no difference at all.
@Sleepyguy saidWhat is the sense of being part of a political movement if you are willing to sacrifice virtually all of your principles for a couple of show posts in an organization you don't even think should exist?

And Wajoma raises a good point (broken clock, twice a day, etc.): if the Libertarian Party is sooooooooooooooooo unimportant and inconsequential, why did Trump bother to go their convention and grovel for their votes?
@no1marauder saidSeeking to influence policies to better align with your principles is not abandoning your principles. You just need to be grown up enough to accept not always getting your way.

@Sleepyguy saidIf traditional Republicans, already inside the tent - I mean, they OWNED the g***d*** tent - weren't able to influence MAGA, why do you think recently arrived Libertarians would wield any influence?
Seeking to influence policies to better align with your principles is not abandoning your principles. You just need to be grown up enough to accept not always getting your way.
I can guarantee, even in a traditional 'seniority matters' organization, the influence would be paltry. But in a Trump-worshipping organization, the influence would be zero because there is no 'influence.' You are privileged to do exactly what the boss says and that's it.
@Sleepyguy saidYou want trump to put his political opponents in jail?
I think there are a lot people who need to be fired or go jail for a lot of shady stuff that's gone in this country the last few years and the only way that can possibly happen (not that its likely) is if Trump gets elected and goes after them. In fact one of the speakers at the LP convention laid out the crimes against Trump nicely. Dave Smith, 2nd to last speaker I think? ...[text shortened]... much tougher crowd than Trump is used to and he was poorly prepared IMO. It made for interesting TV.
We have 2 attorney generals, appointed by trump, who hate the guy. Hated working for him. They couldn't get anything done.
What makes you think it'll be different this time?

@spruce112358 saidI guess I missed the indictment for treason that the "deep State" obtained against Donald Trump. Maybe Mr. Smith provided a link?
Might be easier to watch just the clip.
Dave Smith (1:45): Libertarians believe that "Donald Trump as President of the United States of America was framed for treason by his own Deep State. And those people belong in jail."
Does he speak for all Libertarians, though?

@Sleepyguy saidThey should return to the pledge to weed out the appeasers, years back you had to make a pledge to join the party, nothing binding just a reminder of what the party was about. And there was nothing in the pledge about bending over for Trump.

@no1marauder saidThank you good sir, in twenty years that is the first time you've endorsed one of my points, but it is the 'broken watch, twice a day' analogy I truly appreciate, that would make me correct about 15000 times.

Unfortunately a reciprocatory situation has not yet presented itself, odds are after twenty years it's just around the corner, keep trying. We just ask that you do not link to spoodge.org again, that long forgotten, defunct corner of the internet should be allowed to rest in peace, it's bytes dispersed into space, from whence they came, a unique but failed experiment.
@Wajoma saidBend over? No.

More like stand up.
@no1marauder saidHeh... don't think so.
