We had a luxury car tax in Australia. It was how we protected the local car industry. Which basically meant anything European especially German premium brands were effectively out of reach. It also meant you get an Australian built car with a 6 or 8 cyl, cheaper than a European 4. Which on our long rural highways made sense to buy Australian. That was until the Government stopped wanting to subsidise the local industry run by Ford, GM and Toyota and within 3 years they all closed down with thousands of jobs gone plus all those in ancillary industries. But that's another long story....

Wow, you actually figured out just who pays the tariffs, like I said, so Sony sells Grainger a widget for 100 dollars, Grainger buys it, puts say a 30% profit, sells it for 130 dollars, but now a 20% tariiff comes in and do you seriously think SONY pays that? GRAINGER pays that particular tariff and do you seriously think they would just bite the bullet and still sell it for 130 bucks like before and lose 20 bucks profit?
