Well - I hate to cause offence (at least if it is unintentional) but, yes, on second reading, I would appear to have stereotyped certain people in my posting.
That is probably because pool and darts would both seem to be games played primarily in smoke filled rooms by the indigenous underclass population of the North of England - typically, ill-mann ...[text shortened]... nderthal types. And that is of course, the women.
Find yourself a sense of humour luv!

Northampton isn't really the "North" of England though is it?! To qualify for that honour we're talking at least North of Derby, not just Watford!

Anyway, The SLow Pawn might be a northerner exiled in Northampton. I would say Northampton is very definitely midlands.
Originally posted by ExyI believe Northampton is actually in the Midlands, so you can be in either the North or the South should you wish to be in either camp 😉

What is wrong with pool!!!
Andrew
I do agree that Northampton might technically not be too far up the north but as much as I enjoy the debate on locality, I still think that some people (Mr. Kearns in this case) should really be careful what they are putting in threads as I felt very insulted by his words ...
Kindest regards

Mr Dantes' games with Mr Sarnie were 1 day timeout; a serious commitment.
Mr Dantes made a commitment to 1 day chess back in december in a seemingly 1 round tournament.
Did this imply commitment to 1 day chess games starting late february?
(just trying to fan the flames : the coals are cooling)

I understand that the extra round was just started without any consultation. I am but a minow in the pool but if an extra 2 games with 1 day TO were put on me out of the blue I'd struggle! Timing out in those circumstances seems distinctly in the realms of not fair play. Russ I think an apology might be in order, sorry to gripe this is a great site and must take a huge amount of work but don't forget to give some time to direct communications.
I really can't contact everyone and wait for them to respond before starting any new tournaments rounds. I would have even less time do anything useful than I do now!
But, as the traditional one day TO tournament has had its day, with the introduction of the timebank, hopefully it should not cause such a problem in future.

Originally posted by Russhmmm. could there be a warning system that the next round is about to start. Instead of starting the next round the instant the last one finished leave a break of (2?) weeks. Make the start date of the next round visable on the tournaments page and then anyone who is waiting for the next round to start need only check every week to see if a start date has been set.

Jon (who reckons if he keeps throwing out ideas one has to be a good one eventually)
Originally posted by RussYou are totally right that you can't contact them all, almost every situation works out right just the way it is!

One thing though, take a look at the Xmas Grand tournament, both ED and PS have quit the site, so the auto-T/O's will go on and on and on and on .... untill eternity!
What can we do about that?

Chess is not a lout's game like darts or pool, and although those who timed him out might have acted within the rules of the game, their conduct was not honourable, and their "victories" were both shallow, hollow, and most of all, pyrrhic, costing this site the loss of its greatest player and showman.
