Indeed. This was being discussed last night on Channel 5 here in the UK. The bottom line in that debate was more or less (although not articulated as bluntly), this incident is more unusual, therefore more interesting, therefore more media prone. Looking at various social media I say that media consumers were less interested, less caring about the 5 people who died in the ...[text shortened]... ing OceanGate.

Edit; there is also the Titanic and the bottom-of-the-ocean disaster movie drama.
No doubt there will sadly be a similar tragic, high profile story related to the SpaceX Starship in time.

There's a joke there somewhere, but I think it's too early.

EXPLORING, in itself, comes with some danger but some comes at a much higher, potentially, “price”.

There is never a good time to laugh at the death or misfortune of other people.

It got way more coverage than the 600 people who drowned off Pylos, Greece, in similarly ghastly circumstances, a few days ago.
This is the first I am even hearing about it. I guess they were not multi millionaires!

We all know the titanic sunk so were not learning anything. From what I can see is they just wanted to get up close to look at it. I don't call that exploring. If anything they were exploring the vessel they were in, we all know how that worked out.

It takes something, I don't know if the correct word would be Bravery. Soldiers who die in battle are brave. This may not be what the masses want to hear, but what I think, l would think I am still entitled to an opinion, be it popular or not.

There’s a lot of people “sneering” online because those who died were very wealthy. What a sad mindset.

I Believe it has more to do with them JUST being wealthy, you can be smart and still unable to play Chess, I use you as an example. 🙂 😛

I hope you are not referring to thoughtful analysis and reaction to the tragedy such as this...

I applaud this woman's "mindset". It's a pity she has been inundated with death threats.
