I say fools and their money go their separate ways quickly. Word was out before they even left that the submersible could be unsafe. From what I hear the guy who said that was fired. They knew in advance they were taking a very big chance with their lives. I say condolences to their families though. I am sure they didn't know about the dangers involved in this experimental submersible. I believe it was suicide mission from the start.

@very-rusty saidAbsolutely. Which is why, although foolhardy, I have the greatest respect for these brave adventurers.

@fmf saidIf you really believe this then you are a greater fool than I first thought. They knew the dangers. They were intimately aware of the structural weakness of the carbon fibre hull. But, despite this, they wanted to be pioneers in deep sea science. Don’t make cheap jibes at their expense.
Yes, I am. The owner of the sub was a charlatan. I take it you didn't bother to watch the video.
It is absolutely ludicrous to suggest they were "pushing out the frontiers of human knowledge”.
I asked but you didn't answer. What new thing were they hoping to discover?

You really think that?
The CEO of the sub company thought it was super strong.
Do you think they would have jumped out of an airplane if they were 'intimately aware' their parachute was made of tissue paper?
@pianoman1 saidIf these people “knew the dangers” and were completely aware of the structural weaknesses” and still wanted to go 2.5 miles down under the ocean in it, where the pressure is iro 6,000lbs per square inch… then they are/were reckless bloody idiots and the human gene pool is better off without theirs in it, frankly.

@pianoman1 saidI am NOT a fool!

@pianoman1 saidPioneers? What new thing in "deep sea science" were they seeking to discover? Hadn't "deep sea scientists" already told them the sub was a death trap based on "scientific knowledge" about the "deep sea"?
But, despite this, they wanted to be pioneers in deep sea science.
@pianoman1 saidHaven't hundreds of people already visited the wreck in the last 38 years? How is someone doing it in 2023 "pushing the bounds of scientific knowledge to the limit"?
Do not ever underestimate the men who push the bounds of scientific knowledge to the limit. Only by pushing can we progress in our knowledge and understanding of the human condition.
@pianoman1 saidIt's a serious matter.. it was trans submarine. They should know it was not real

@fmf saidDidnt James Cameron and a crew go down there dozens of times while filming the movie? The problem was the actual submarine. It as a prototype. People suggested they should have tested it our on poorer people first so that the media would not get involved.
