Some of my favourites: Sean Lock, Lee Mack, the brilliant, unequalled Bill Bailey! The mental Ross Noble. Hmm, I thought there were more. Oh yes - Jack Dee. I'm sure there are more still...

this is the whole show I think:

And what about Ricky Gervais? You must have seen him!
And (I knew there had to be at least one good female) Ronnie Ancona!

He's doing his best troll routine. I'll grant this to him though, it's funnier than anything Eddie Izzard ever did.
Your list:
Maria Bamford - women can't do stand up. Fact.
Dave Chappelle - not funny
Louis CK - not funny
Jim Gaffigan - not funny
Zach Galifianakis - very funny as an actor, quite depressing as a comedian and as a human being.
Patton Oswalt - I am not stoned enough to laugh at this guy
David Cross - seriously not funny
Anthony Jeselnik - not funny. Why do American comedians have this habit of pausing and waiting for the audience to laugh at their crap jokes and then starting up again and then pausing and waiting etc?
Lewis Black - not funny, sorry.
Chris Rock - has only one joke: white people are different from black people.
Mike Birbiglia - wow... almost had me, but then he started sucking. http://tinyurl.com/2u48ted
Katt Williams - He's okay, kinda run of the mill though.
Other mentions in this thread: Denis Leary, as you mentioned, huge ripoff of Bill Hicks. Interesting fact: his most famous bit ever, that "I'm An @sshole" song, was originally thought up by Louis CK and Leary went and stole it. Bill Hicks however... he's a bit different. He was funny, and very entertaining, however he was more of a philosopher/mythical creature/deity than a stand up comedian.
Rich Hall isn't bad but doesn't have me rolling on the floor.
Steven Wright is more of an absurdist that fell into a stand up career than an actual comedian. ZOMG HE'S SO RANDUM!
Good comedians mentioned in this thread:
Bill Bailey - will totally blow you away
Jack Dee - pretty funny
Lee Evans - retarded twit, monkey/human hybrid
(edit: Ricky Gervais - genius)
Not mentioned in this thread:
Dylan Moran - brilliant and hilarious
Jimmy Carr - so quick witted he could probably do an entire show hurling insults back and forth between himself and the audience.

Soupy Sales was well before my time.
I'm curious to know who the decent English stand-up comedians are so I can check them out. Can't say I know of any besides Izzard...
I know Billy Connolly but he's Scottish.

Anybody who did not find any of those films funny is a screaming gaylord.
