How cool... "... humility and recognition of impotence." Isn't this the very context

in which the whole game begins, once we emerge from the womb locker room?

Causes of the hunger... frustrated peristalsis, emptiness, vacuum, void? Of the anger?

I'm guessing here, but I'll go with anger at:
own ignorance
shock of being thrust into new situation
fear
unfamiliar sensory overload
lack of Radiohead soundtrack

"ignorance"... What are the manifestations, as perceived by the infant or child?

"shock of being thrust into new situation"... Why not the excitement of discovery?

"fear"... 'Of the vast unknown' seems unlikely if ignorance prevails. So, of what?

"unfamiliar sensory overload"... Makes sense. Out of the locker, onto the field.

"lack of Radiohead sountrack"... Why a systemic need for comforting distraction?

Sorry: lost track during the milieu...

What are the manifestations, as perceived by the infant or child?
Mostly unnamed. General confusion similar to a newly blind/deaf man who wakes up adrift on the sea.

Why not the excitement of discovery?
No frame of reference wherein new was equated with reward.

'Of the vast unknown' seems unlikely if ignorance prevails. So, of what?
As above, only with a dominating sense of no inner stabilizing moorings upon which to latch.

Why a systemic need for comforting distraction?
The body human was created for comfort, for pleasure... within prescribed boundary and following correct measure. Hugs feel good.

These positive qualities are format present at birth. Yet, as you've pointed out, numerous countervailing

and intrinsic negative factors become present early and cause major disconnects. Key to the resolution?

Sounds as if the 'key to resolution' requires a willing/cooperative patient, a series of cognitive surgical procedures

and long term post operative rehabilitation. Many terminal cancer patients are seeking an exotic quick fix. Hmm...

'Surprising'..... because the many telltale symptoms (identified in this thread) go unnoticed by the cognitive cancer sufferer's

family and friends and because the individual seems oblivious to or comfortable with his/her own impaired function and pain?

No, I was thinking that what makes it so surprising is that it seemingly so obvious--- maybe not the actual cause, but the fact that something is wrong is a lingering, malignant fact of man's existence.

Interesting macro take. Seems to suggest 'cognitive cancer' may quite possibly be an as yet

unidentified and major universal cause of blurred vision, blindspots and incipient blindness.

That may be it, but I firmly believe that we know that we don't know and yet there exists a need to stifle this knowledge--- it makes us so uncomfortable--- with a frantic search for happiness.

One of our poets/philosophers hit the nail on the head when he said:

"The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation."
