What part of "this thread isn't about notifying the banned persons" didn't you understand?
I'll spell it out for you. There are two issues:
1) Forum bans should be publicly announced and justified
2) Forum bans should be accompanied by an explanation to the banned persons.
LS was proposing 1), while you're reffering to 2).

Well, I know from experience that you can get a ban without having the slightest clue that you might have done anything wrong. But your experience says that can't be, so I must be an idiot who doesn't have a place in modern society.

Dr Strangelove is just looking to go on one of his rants about some sort of pseudo-equality of rights (e.g. his ridiculous anti-vacation crusade) as if anything that goes on in this place has anything to do with basic real-life freedoms.

1) Give the person a warning with a PM first!
2) Give the person an official e-mail notification with the reason and length of his forum ban.
3) Write the name, reason and lengt of the forum ban in a sticky thread in the announcement forum.
This gives the following advantages:
1) You can see quicker then with an e-mail that you have to stop with what you are doing.
2) If the person has missed the PM for some reason, atleast he knows where he's got his forum ban for.
3) Everybody can check why somebody is away, what for and for how long.
4) It opens up the system of the forum moderation a little bit instead of all these discussions.
Disadvantage could be that people are going to discus the reason / bordres of the reason for the forum ban.
