It's about people missing the greater picture. They're too busy with their unimportant little lives to understand they're damning themselves (a very short synapsis of it).

They used to say that 'American Pie' was about the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper. Hence: "the day the music died."
As for 'I Am the Walrus,' all I know is "the walrus was Paul." 🙂
'Come Together,' didn't that one cause Chuck Berry to sue over copyright infringement on the lyric? Other than that, I couldn't tell you.
