Originally posted by Alpha10Drums are more than necessary. You could have a band with a exceptional technical drummer but a mediocre guitarist who is creative and artistic and the music can sound beautiful. However, take an extraordinary technically skilled guitarist and put him in front of a mediocre drummer and you can imagine the results. It should also be said that I am rarely impressed by technical guitar skill so that's where my bias comes in 🙂
I wouldn't go as far as saying that. I would say drums are necessary, and people should give credit where credit is due.
Originally posted by Alpha10I wasn't criticising you dude. No offence intended. Just a friendly bit of banter. You are quite right in saying that a decent drummer is pretty much essential in a band. The way a bassist and drummer bounce of each other, pretty much defines a bands overall sound. A good lead guitaris comes secondary and is in my view, the cherry on top of the cake. As for some people calling me a prima donna, well I have performed live once in the last six years. Bad case o stage fright. :'(

Originally posted by darvlayNo, but you hinted at it. I wasn't aware that ability was linked to whether or not someone was a prima donna. I would call myself less than average. There's one hell of a lot of competition out there.

Did I? Well, I didn't mean to (like I already said).
one of my friends has a jackson, and it's rather nice. although it was down-tuned to C or something and i don't know anything so...yeah, bang go the open chords...dunno if i'd buy one though-they cost too much. £300 is cheap for a jackson! although, be warned that jackson and ibanez don't have dofferent brand-names for their foreign guitars (epiphone/gibson, squire/fender) so you're getting a korean or whatever jackson, not an american. so it's not gonna appreciate in value, but it's fine for an intermediate.
and a song?
sunshine of your love, by cream. i did it in tabs, and it's dead easy. and it was the first song i could properly play! (ergo, it's dead easy...). and no, i'm not doing the solo...

It’s getting near dawn,
When lights close their tired eyes.
I’ll soon be with you my love,
To give you my dawn surprise.
I’ll be with you darling soon,
I’ll be with you when the stars start falling.
I’ve been waiting so long
To be where I’m going
In the sunshine of your love.
I’m with you my love,
The light’s shining through on you.
Yes, I’m with you my love,
It’s the morning and just we two.
I’ll stay with you darling now,
I’ll stay with you till my seas are dried up.
Chorus
Second verse
I’ve been waiting so long
I’ve been waiting so long
I’ve been waiting so long
To be where I’m going
In the sunshine of your love.
