@petewxyz saidIf everyone wore a mask, I think you'd soon see the numbers go down. We are doing excellent here in Nova Scotia.
That's the curious thing though, the position seems to change on that one. Before any of this began I was always taught that surgical masks were good for 20-30 minutes at best. Then people started to say there was now evidence that they protect the wearer. It has all become so politicized it is hard to see the wood for the trees.
Distancing indoors and in still air makes ...[text shortened]... eresting to know what difference they made if anybody collects data that can be reasonably compared.

@very-rusty saidI hear that raccoons in Halifax have been conferring viral immunity to humans through oral-buccal contact. Unfortunately, at the risk of their own lives.

@vivify saidI was out a week ago to a couple of places for coffee then lunch and no one was wearing a mask, both clients and staff. Toilets were closed in one cafe which I wondered if they were actually out of order as the sign said or closed due to the virus. Seating was more spaced out as usual but it generally felt like an experience pre covid. Been out three times to eat since lockdown ended and in only one place were the staff wearing masks, I’d say about 20% of people out who would normally be though, maybe less.
In the U.S. where I live, there a additional conditions. Social distancing is enforced with patrons sitting at least an entire booth apart, if not more. The amount of customers allowed in the building is at 50 percent capacity and masks must be put on any time there's movement to another place, such as to the bathroom or to leave.
I don't know if the UK has similar addi ...[text shortened]... ring masks at restaurants but they (in my mind) making wearing masks at restaurants make more sense.
I guess the UK is similar to the US in that we have different local governments having different rules.
@very-rusty saidIs your McDonald’s not open for sit in yet?
My dear that would be impossible as this is the internet not out in a public place, that is where the danger is for you!

@trev33 saidThe UK actually seem to be doing much better than the U.S.

@petewxyz saidYou should be aware that surgical masks aren't the same as face masks, which are what most people wear. Surgical masks offer more protection than the face masks we've become accustomed to wearing. Same with cloth masks.

"Airing on the side of caution"
*erring.
@trev33 saidYes, people can go in and I think 4 people can sit together and everything is spaced. Masks have to be worn except when eating of course or any movement around such as a bathroom trip.
Is your McDonald’s not open for sit in yet?
Personally I don't. The better half goes in and pick up our drinks wearing a mask, talks to a few of her friends for a few minutes with her mask on and back out.
We are waiting to see how it goes before we sit in! I believe we only have 3 active cases in Nova Scotia right now. We had 64 pass and 53 of those lived in a large senior complex, understaffed and not proper PPE.

An entirely personal opinion:
Health workers are risking their lives on a daily basis to help us all. They must wear full PPE including respirator masks for their whole working shift, which must be seriously uncomfortable. They make an occasional comment but otherwise they're all doing it, unless they die of the disease of course.
A person with a contagious respiratory illness, who doesn't yet know they have a contagious disease, wanders freely among strangers going about their necessary daily business.
Why on earth would such a person even want to be moving around without having their face covered, even if the mask can't be guaranteed 100% effective?
Respect our health worker heroes. Show that respect by wearing your own mask.
@Kewpie
If only you had the power sort this sick play out heh! WTF is this world coming to🤷♂️
@kewpie saidWe always wear our masks, My brother sister-in-law and niece are all nurses who work in our best hopital here in Nova Scotia, people from all over the province and other provinces come here to have tests done. I think they are gradually letting people back in with that bubble they have where 4 of the atlantic Provinces can travel. Not sure about Newfoundland!
