It's a bit natural to think that the gay community does (in average) more drugs than straight people. After all, gay people have (apart from cognitive dissonant ones) already breached with conservative mindsets.
I'm sure if you take a similar heterosexual subculture of clubbers, the level of recreational drug use is about the same. and if you take a group of conservative middle-aged gay cops (which is a surprisingly big group!), the level of drug use will be very low.
I'm sure breaching the conservative mindset has some effect, but I suspect your average hetero clubber has made pretty much the same breakthrough.
