When creating this thread, I was actually hoping to get some responses that included movies that were dark, disturbing and thought-provoking, with some artistic merit (many listed here).
Faces of Death was disturbing...particularly the monkey scene, but (IMO) not really worthy of any praise. I don't think the director's intent was anything more than shock value.
my father had only mentioned it in passing a while back, so I thought i'd try and see what you guys knew about it or if any had even seen it...

Now there's an article about it in a local online newspaper: http://www.ab24.no/default.asp?page=5349&item=31970,1&lang=1
They quote me with an impressive-sounding sentence I never said. 😉
Originally posted by wormwoodSomething like "The long sequences and the great actorblabla gave the film an increased realityblublub." Or: "The long sequences and the great performance of the actors gave the film an increased description of reality". An increased description? What the heck? But it sounds impressive! (Actually I didn't say anything at all about the length of the sequences, the performance of the actors or a description of reality. In fact I didn't say much at all.)

Originally posted by AThousandYoungYes, that's what I think it's supposed to mean. But it's still nonsense; you can't increase a description. The sentence also suffers from substantiveritis. Instead of "... gave the film an increased description of reality", one could say something like "the film feels more realistic because of ..."
