This is kind of a non-question. Definitely Joy Division.

I just thought they were edgier and taking a few more risks with the music.

Joy Division...darker and creepier. Reminiscent of Morphine...another band I really liked.

To Shav: The Beatles were not
overrated. 😠
She loves me yada yada yada...

Overrated.

How many albums did they make? 10? 12? How many were truly classic? 3.

Three out of 12. Better than some, but not really impressive.
(I'm referring to Rubber soul, The white album and Sgt. Peppers, obviously)

You don't really. You're just being obstinate.
How can I be obstinate when I haven't stated an opinion other than the fact that yours was uneducated? I think you're probably the more obstinate of the two of us, to be honest.

Well, he probably realised is quasi-depressing songs were going out of fashion and he topped himself.

Best thing really, 'cause otherwise everyone would know "Love will tear us apart" as a Paul Young song...
so who do you listen to apart from paul young?

I don't like The Beatles, wait a minute hear me out.

For their time they pushed boundaries but let's not over-state this since they were also very commercial and packaged as such. I am not of their time and their music doesn't really speak to me but I know I am in the minority on that one.

Not in the context of this tangential discussion, they're not.

I wouldn't count them as "albums", per se... or else the best Sonic Youth album is the mix tape I've had in my stereo for the past 10 years.

It would have to be Joy Division, but Bauhaus is better than both.

The reason why is that Joy Division sang the only song I can actually recognise, but Bauhaus sang: "Bela Lugosi's dead", probably one of the best songs ever written.
