It's a good question since Joy Division were darker and "realer," but New Order were catchier with better beats. By the end, Joy Division songs had become one prolonged indeciferable moan - but it was a true moan. I want to say Joy Division because I used to love them when I was a depressed obnoxious goth teenager... but you're hardly going to throw a Joy Division album on when you're having a house party. Unless you have depressing house parties.

Yes...I heard a rumour Jude Law was in the running to play Curtis. I think A Wilson has other plans though

Anthony Wilson:
"I have met the person we want to play Ian."

"He is one of the hottest young things in Hollywood. He's Irish, but it's not Colin Farrell."

It's not Jude Law 😉

Tell that to the thousands upon thousands of musicians that were influenced by their music. Not to mention that they made several ground-breaking advances in recording techniques. I never cared for their "bubble-gum" Pop stuff, but once they got introspective, you were compelled to listen. Like them or don't like them, as is your right, but one can't deny that they changed Rock forever, and I (as a musician) thank them.

Joy Division every time; virtually every song is a classic - New Order didn't really get going until Republic for me. There's a slight distinction in that Joy Division were brilliant at capturing one single mood, whereas New Order caught a number passingly well.

Now now, give credit where credit is due. Joy Division's recordings are what they are thanks to Martin Hannett.

I don't listen to either of them anymore. Having been a good little Goth, I played Joy Division to death; New Order's output was uneven--like SPK, in a different way--and I could never embrace them with the horrid clammy passion. I only like two entire New Order albums--Low Life and Power, Corruption & Lies. Of course, there are those boppy numbers from the double album that won't lie down & die...I never got around to listening to the last two albums...What were they like? I hope they got a lot of money for the World Cup song.

Favourite Joy Division cover...? Grace Jones' She's Lost Control for me.
