@anitya saidI am not a Christian anymore but my moral compass certainly owes a lot to my Christian background.
Also while not exactly "in" the OT, the seven cardinal sins and the seven corresponding virtues were all discussed at length at Casa Anitya over the past 20 years.
Like I say - you pick and choose.
@fmf saidAnything that finds a way to be passed down for thousands of years cannot be ignored out of hand. It is worth investigating. Learning. And then deciding.

The post that was quoted here has been removedWhile Christians can speak for themselves, if one does not perceive the commandments in the Bible to be "laws", then I think moral free agents have every right to be selective about how or to what degree they model their approach to parenting and moral education on the content of the Bible.

The post that was quoted here has been removedI don't understand the question. Are you saying we should not teach that slavery is wrong? Children will know that instinctively - so any consideration, investigation or discussion is pointless?
It's kind of a 1 or a 0.
"How much" is subjective. Not much? Is that the answer you were looking for?
The post that was quoted here has been removedThis is all nonsense of course.
"an abysmal failure to comprehend his own words." I disagree, I am quite able to comprehend my words.
"Anitya is making (at best) a wrong argument about showing respect for tradition." Again I disagree. I was saying the durability of ideas matter.
Of course it is not 100%. What in the world is? And even if you disagree is mocking necessary? Can't you just say you disagree?
But this is the best part:
"But Anitya seems unable to comprehend that he's doing it."
How arrogant do you have to be to think that what you comprehend is what everyone should comprehend?
You are pointing out to the group that I do not think like you do. That you got right.
The post that was quoted here has been removed"So, again, can Antiya explain how much investigation and learning slavery deserves?"
Not much (I fear I am repeating myself).
30 seconds. 15 seconds. 3 seconds. You pick professor. But it is not 0 seconds. How would that even be possible?
"Students who are too insecure or arrogant even to concede their errors, let alone
to learn from them, are destined to fail."
Could not agree more. Professors too.
