@shallow-blue saidI don’t know what era you a referring to to be honest and I’m not a “computer person”, nor do I know what Sugar did to complicate things, but I take your word for it that he did. When you say the best period in computer history, should I assume that you mean gaming history rather than computers per-se?
The best period in computer history: when it wasn't completely academic and military any more, and wasn't yet industrialised and commercialised by the likes of that $#!+ Sugar, but when an interested amateur could still find his way into getting the bleedin' thing to do what he wanted, without having to invest an entire education in three dozen flavour-of-the-day Java*&#Script frameworks.
My fave mag was ZX Computing, while it lasted. Yours?
I grew up in the neo-Tron era of arcade games such as the state of the art (at the time) Defender which was my favourite, and of course the earlier Space Invaders.
Edit: oh and Galaxian!
@divegeester saidAnd you call yourself an Englishman...

Quite the opposite. Computer use and understanding in general, rather than merely the gaming that could be done on a Crumb64 as easily.
@shallow-blue saidYou’re not either Tim or Chris are you...?

@shallow-blue saidOh, that explains it. I never knew "Troll Boy" was a game.
I still occasionally play the game my avatar was taken from.
@earl-of-trumps saidCan you give a clue on 1) ?
I am the master of useless trivia.
1) What game can you engage in and lose before you have a chance to play? (not a board game)
2) What sport in the Olympics is not gender divided?
(answers Jan 1 if no one gets them)
@divegeester saidNah - if I were, I'd make it legal to download the 8-bit versions of Ultimate games!
You’re not either Tim or Chris are you...?
@shallow-blue saidI trust you are suitably impressed that did a little research into your passion.

@divegeester saidI trust nothing/nobody but my Ouija board for the real answers. 😲

@hand-of-hecate saidOk no pistol duels with you! 😛
I shot enough rounds last year in pistol competitions to have fueled a South American coup.
I am going to turn a new page in the New Year!

Please let it be blank.

As mr. rookie is wont to say,
God bless everyone...
no exceptions.
