So, does anything which has falling water "fall" into the category "waterfalls"? Like rain, for example (well, living in a place with lots of wind, I am actually most used to rain moving horizontally or diagonally upwards 😉 )?
Seriously, if fountains are supposed to be included, I think maybe the category should be called "moving water" or something like that, which would be a pretty wide category. If it's meant to be more narrow, but you want to include a bit more than just waterfalls, it would feel more natural to me to pair waterfalls with brooks, for example. Just my opinion.

I think we should just leave it at waterfalls for the moment. Otherwise I might be opening a whole can of worms on myself.

The most confusing pictures in the competition (at least for me) were 15-17, as they clearly don't show a sunset or sunrise. Is there a group called "sunsets", or what is that all about? I guess I may have to wait for the answer until the voting is over, unless this is common knowledge.
20 (Sun Set Over Swkto) is an interesting picture. At the first look it's just a beautiful sunset picture. If you look closer, you realize something's wrong. Of course it's the "reflection", which isn't mirrored (as it says in the comment and as it would be if it were natural), but upside-down. Generally I prefer pictures without added effects, but this picture might have made it into my voting list if the effects had been more natural. I am not sure, though. The fact that it has been tempered with would still influence me (making me like the picture less). And in some way, I even see it as an advantage that the effects are clearly unnatural - it's easier to see it as artwork if it doesn't try to pretend to be what it isn't (a natural picture without special effects). I am not entirely sure whether the unnaturalness was intended or not in this case, though. I would like to hear what other people think about added effects. Is it important to you that a picture looks natural, or don't you care about unnaturalness as long as the picture is aesthetically pleasing? And if a picture looks natural, do you care whether it actually *is* natural or not?

That said, when I see an image that I think the contrasting has been adjusted, the saturation tweaked, the colour adjusted slightly, brightness altered, or overall levels set, I consider this a valid enhancement to a photo, that until a few years ago, was only available to those who could afford it. Digitally, many more of us are now able to participate in a field that was once the exclusive domain of those who could afford either their own darkroom, or the fees of their local photo lab.
In a competition such as this, it seems to me that we are looking for real-time snapshots, not the best Photoshop-enhanced prints. I'm far more interested in the scene at the moment, with minor enhancements, not the scene as modified on a rainy weekend.

In photography I look for the difference between a common snap and properly thought out photograph. In voting I looked for framing, balance - symmetry vs deliberate assymetry, colour contrast, focus and exposure. A few photos would have been a few places higher if half the frame was almost black for want of a fraction more exposure.
Pet hates for me are power lines or dead spots (items that detract from the theme) usually in the foreground or frame.A few let themselves down here. And most importantly is the image pleasing?
If you use a film camera and have it processed it is automatically enhanced and may again be enhanced when you scan them. Digital photographers all use enhancement of some kind even if they just use their cams on auto.
Where digital mechanics are used to change or add on to the photo these are usually entered in a different sections in comps or are declared.

Waterfalls is a bit specific isn't it?
I have no decent waterfalls pics.
Perhaps something more general would get more entrants.
And yes, come on and vote!
But the water must be the main object of the photo, so that the round doesn't become too broad.
Ok people, 1,263 views and still only 9 votes. If you're going to take the time to enjoy other people's work, then you should at least go to the little extra effort of voting on the pictures. If views remains high and votes low in the next round, then I will make the albums private, with authority to view by application only.
And I'm pretty shocked at the level of voting by the participants? Even some of those who have been making moves/posting in the forums since voting opened, haven't voted. Have we got a bad case of rwingett syndrome going on here?
