Your error is assuming that a band's sound is represented by one song.

I prefer SY's nineties releases to their eighties ones. Namely Goo, Washing Machine, Experimental Jet Set...

But you are right about the Pixies, they are 80's. I just didn't start listening to them until the nineties.
