Actually, survival of the fittest does not necessarily benefit the intelligence scale. It benefits those who reproduce more. Studies have shown that people with a lower IQ tend to have more kids than people with a higher IQ.

Have you ever seen the movie Idiocracy? An average Joe gets frozen in time and wakes up 500 years l t about the ever growing anti-intellectualism in society and the tendency to dumb things down.
A concept beautifully illustrated by "The Little Black Bag", written by Cyril M. Kornbluth and published in 1950.

Nothing new under the sun.

Hmm, this explains why Rusty took in more kids to terrorize by taking their toys away.

Man, he is one sick puppy.

Surely, such unusual obtuseness and disregard for any logical reasoning is unsafe for a 13+ site? In fact, I would argue that it is by far more detrimental to the young people who mig ...[text shortened]... nsuspecting teenager.

In your opinion, to what extent, if any, should stupidity be moderated?
Yes. Stupidity is offensive.

Although this thread started with good intentions. Unfortunately it has been contaminated and in danger of heading down the same path. 🙁

I don't have a problem with simple people, or ignorance, but I do have one with stupidity. the difference is that stupidity as I understand it, is a malevolent trait characterized by the need to force your own specific brand of brainless existence upon others. a stupid person is actively seeking to dumben others down. it's not enough for him to be an idiot, he wants everybody to be just as stupid. think like he wants. he'll go to great lengths to stiffle any and all signs of intellect, and cry bloody murder every time that obnoxious tendency gets confronted. the cancer of tolerance.

and yes, the youngsters are much worse off by being exposed to such behaviour models than [robomodded] curse words.

I've got a good friend, he's a walking dictionary/encyclopedia/National Geographic resource. He's the kind of guy who claims he won't use a word while talking unless he knows how to spell it... and he does.

I once asked him, "Would you rather be stupid or ignorant"?

In under a second he said something like, "I'd rather be stupid. Being ignorant means you are too lazy to learn, and complacent with the erroneous information you were spoon fed (if any information at all). False knowledge or a total lack of knowledge is worthless if not dangerous. If I was stupid I probably wouldn't even know or care".

Next, he snapped his fingers in my face. His little way of saying, "FACT".

Plato would disagree.

Ignorance is simply the absence of knowledge about something, not necessarily due to laziness or complacency. Intelligence is the ability to learn and use new information so, conversely, stupidity is simply the lack of that ability. That lack could be due to behavioural issues.

Your friend seems stupid.

I believe his friend is using a more up-to-date connotation of the word, which carries an implication of willful ignoring of available information.

LoL!~ I still remember my wife to be...

"Howie, do something"! as Pat and I threw down in the parking lot at the bar after several pints of Killian's Red. Still not sure what her problem was, Pat and I were LAUGHING!~

I am a bit ashamed for hitting a man with glasses, I might mention.
