@the-gravedigger saidAha. So that’s where the hair came from. I was about to have that sent out for DNA testing but now I can just chide Bullwinkle.👍
His moose borrowed it.
@great-big-stees saidHave you ever had a DNA test done if so what did it cost you? I have been thinking after all these years of having one done providing they don't want an crazy amount of money to have it done.

@very-rusty saidYou mean an analysis so that you can trace relatives or similar around the world?

@torunn saidActually so I can know my background better. It will tell me what I am by percentage like French, English, Irish, Scotch, etc., etc., A friend found out he was part German and didn't know it, also had some Native in him, plus some others.

@very-rusty saidMy daughter had a DNA test done, and it didn't make her any wiser. It showed she is a mix of many nationalities and races, her father being African-Indian-European of many generations. It is also required that other relatives or similar have done a DNA test so that it is all in a DNA bank. That is how I understood it. So she only knows that she is mix of pretty much everything. 🙂

@torunn saidExactly, what I want to find out. See if something is there I didn't know about.

@very-rusty saidGood luck with that. If your family come from different parts of the world - as most Americans do - you may have surprises waiting. 🙂

@very-rusty saidNorth Americans?
@Torunn
I am Canadian not American. 🙂
Seriously, I did that DNA thing and sent mine off to Ancestry.com and they are affiliated with the LDS church, so they have a huge database of genealogical information. You could start your own family tree right there and work it backwards, and they even find clues for you of people who might belong in your tree, and I periodically get email from them saying this or that Ancestry.com user is related to me (usually like 3rd or 4th cousin or something). They also do a region analysis of your DNA and show what regions of the world people with similar DNA as you come from.
Their DNA testing is on the high side. Normally $99, it's on sale for $59 for Labor Day. Aside from the testing, the website is like $19.95 a month, for the minimum benefits, so beware and ask yourself if that's worth it to you before you jump in.
There are many others, like 23andme.com, livingdna.com, findmypast.com, nebula.org, dynamicdnalabs.com and familytreedna.com, among others.
@very-rusty saidyou're a mutt

@suzianne saidHuh. I would have thought the Catholics had the biggest database. 😉
North Americans?
