@divegeester saidDidn't you also make this claim about Herman?
They’re already “here” … as someone else 😄
How about we just do what the OP suggests and encourage new posters here. Isn't that in the interest of the site?

@ghost-of-a-duke saidConsidering that only you, Torunn and EoTs actually are the last new members here …. then who did you have in mind?

@divegeester saidIt took us 2 seconds to find members who joined here after me. I'm sure there are many others.

@ghost-of-a-duke saidNo, it’s the other way around; you’ve been here longer than they!
It took us 2 seconds to find members who had been here longer than me. I'm sure there are many others.
So when you are bleating about welcoming newer members, who did you have in mind?

@divegeester saidYes, that's what I meant to say. Members who have joined after me.

The OP was created to welcome new people. Is your argument that such an OP is pointless, that new people don't come to these forums?
That wouldn't bode well for the longevity of the site.
@ghost-of-a-duke saidNo, I’m just replying to you and asking you who you have in mind?

@ghost-of-a-duke saidThey do, it's a bout 40 miles from me. They have special monks for this purpose located at a temple in Melton Mowbray.
In Leicestershire they worship the pork pie.
@divegeester saidWe are not going to all agree, it's a debating forum so you will have opposite positions.
Please define “unnecessarily” in this context?
There is a difference between disagreeing and offering a logical or researched counter position, and (as some do) be aggressive and rude. The latter is unnecessary.
This is a good example of unnecessary ..................

You can't resist oozing your narcissism all over the forum, can you?
@divegeester
Oh do shut up you dull, humourless harpy.
@medullah saidDo you think both comments were “unnecessary”?

This sounds like you have a touch of Grampy Bobby Syndrome. He also insisted that this chess website would be doomed ~ presumably all the chess games going on would just peter out ~ without the General Forum.
@medullah saidI see. Interesting how you didn’t say anything directly to your club member Suzianne … nor indeed any of your other club members who “attack” or “retaliate”.
@divegeester
Yes, the first remark was an attack on you, the second retaliation.
I think if your opinion on this matter was to become one of FMF’s “new laws” then a large part of the vibrancy and fun in these various forums would evaporate.
Fun for who?
Who do you think that partakes of these forums enjoys the personal insults, that are on a par with a school playground or the yobs that pretend to be learned people in Westminster?
If somebody thinking of joining in reads through a thread pitted with spiteful mud slinging it's hardly going to attract anyone unless they like a good barney.
