@divegeester saidWhat both did was wrong at the end of the day!
I don’t think there is anything further to understand than the facts as demonstrated live on global television in order to make a definitive judgment that what Chris Rock did was wrong in terms of it being misogynistic, snide and in poor taste, and also to make a definitive judgment that what Will Smith did was wrong in terms of it being brutish, cowardly, illegal and com ...[text shortened]... to personally know either of the men involved to come to those judgments. Both were without excuse.
What chances would Chris Rock have against Will Smith physically?
I think he was in shock it even happened!

@very-rusty saidWhat does this have to do with the morality of Smith physically assaulting Rock?
What chances would Chris Rock have against Will Smith physically?
@suzianne saidWell, Suzianne! FINALLY! ! ! !
Will Smith was within his rights to defend his wife, who has a scalp condition. Chris Rock attacked her for having a medical condition. But you're all about that, aren't you? You have done the same thing here yourself.
I'm on Will's side. But you can sit back in your leather chair implying he has a drug problem.
What is wrong with you?
BTW, I would have hit hi ...[text shortened]... eep my wife's name out of your f---ing mouth!" He said it twice. His motivation was crystal clear.
Here we have a case where I COMPLTELEY AGREE WITH YOU!
I'd still been beating on that man when security arrived.
@torunn saidSo, if it was in his script, and it was known that he had made the same 'joke' before, then what was the organiser's motivation for inviting Rock on a night where Smith was expected to win? Definitely set it up to get headlines in my opinion. I don't think Smith was party to it though. There was nothing in it for him.
Chris Rock's bad joke was, I believe, in his script and was meant to be what it was. Will Smith's reaction was impulsive. Still they were both unprofessional.
@very-rusty saidThe issue isn't "defending your wife". The issue is respoding to a tasteless joke with physical violence, which is certainly not "always a good thing".
Defending your wife is always a good thing!

@relentless-red saidI hadn't even thought about that part of it, who knows?

@divegeester saidHe would first have to learn mixed martial arts. He is only 5'7" or 5'8". Will Smith is over 6 foot around 6'2" I believe. Not a very fair contest! Chris Rock really has to watch what comes out of his mouth.
What would have been really entertaining is if Chris Rock had used some mixed martial arts and crashed Will Smith through several tables.

@hakima saidWhy are kids up watching the Oscars where adult jokes and language are often used?
I have a caseload of kids who look up to Smith. Now I have to explain to them why Smith’s choice to use violence to resolve his feelings is essentially not effective. It’s hard work. Smith just made it even more difficult.
Perhaps the parents need some teaching?

@very-rusty saidYeah, that’s a “whoosh” Rusty.
